An Impromptu Adventure: Qiandao Lake Skywalk – 720° Views of Jiangnan Beauty
Autumn's deep charm returns again. For travel lovers, this is the most comfortable season. While the sun shines warm and the breeze is gentle, I set off on an impromptu trip, heading to the Huma Adventure Park by Qiandao Lake in Zhejiang. Riding the soaring cable car, I kick off my adventure.
A cool breeze blows through the hills, and autumn lingers in every courtyard. The scenery of Qiandao Lake, ever-changing with the sun, moon and stars, reveals different beauty across the four seasons. And autumn here is especially enchanting. Mist-shrouded green peaks and emerald waters lift the spirit. Sitting in the cable car, gazing at the mountain views and feeling the gentle breeze, a Jiangnan landscape painting unfolds before me.
I love interesting encounters on unknown journeys. A few days ago, a friend excitedly told me that if I ever visit Qiandao Lake in Hangzhou again, there's one place I must not miss – it has so many fun rides and attractions you'll scream with delight. Her words sparked my curiosity, so with crisp autumn weather, I set off on a spur-of-the-moment trip. This time, I came especially for the scream-worthy Huma Adventure Park.
Huma Adventure Park is located in Qiushan Village, Jiangjia Town, Chun'an County, beside Qiandao Lake, Zhejiang. Verdant mountains stretch far, waters flow endlessly. As the Tang poet Du Mu wrote, 'Autumn fades in Jiangnan but grasses don't wither.' While north China already shows deep autumn hues, the shores of Qiandao Lake remain lush and green. The lake's water ranks among the best of China's great rivers and lakes, designated as a national Grade I water body. Nestled among green mountains, Huma Park enjoys an unparalleled natural environment. It's over 160 km from Hangzhou, and about 300 kilometers from key Yangtze River Delta cities like Ningbo, Nanjing and Shanghai. Within a three-hour travel circle, visitors from Nanjing, Shanghai and Hangzhou can get here easily.
The park offers many fun projects, all integrated with the natural surroundings, so while playing you can also enjoy the pleasures of nature.
The most challenging is the glass cantilever observation deck, touted as the world's number one suspended corridor. Standing on it, you can not only admire the stunning Qiandao Lake scenery from 720 degrees, but also feel the adrenaline rush. The cable car ride, my personal favorite, is also the longest ropeway in the Chun'an area. Slowly taking in the views from the cable car is a huge pleasure. Exciting rides like the rainbow slide, the thrilling alpine coaster, basket swings, joy toss, social-media-famous pillars, and the body-print wall – every internet-famous spot is full of fun. Let's rock this autumn together!
1. Cable Car Soaring
Upon arriving at Huma Adventure Park, first we take the colorful, candy-hued cable cars, traveling through time and space back to childhood, embarking on a joyful adventure.
Sitting in the cable car, admiring the Jiangnan scenery, the gentle breeze carries the fresh scent of mountain forests, instantly refreshing the mind and spirit.
We first take Cable Car No. 1, a route about 2 kilometers long, running for 30 minutes. Photography lovers can slowly enjoy the changing mountain landscapes and capture very fresh, vibrant photos.
2. Visitor Center
The visitor center of Huma Adventure Park is not far from the cable car station. Besides a rest area, the second floor has a restaurant offering various meal sets.
3. Rainbow Slide
Right next to the visitor center, the vibrant seven-colored rainbow slide stands out against the green mountains. It is over 100 meters long and the slide takes just ten-some seconds. Racing down, the feeling is pure joy. This ride suits all ages and is very popular.
The park has countless fun projects. Amid Jiangnan's abundant mountains and waters, come into nature and let yourself go. Shouting out loud makes water columns shoot high into the sky according to your volume – a thrilling experience.
5. Body-Print Wall
This Insta-worthy spot attracts many visitors: press your body hard into the "wall" and your silhouette pops out on the other side. Presenting yourself this way gives a cartoonish, playful effect.
6. Group Swing
Unlike the swings we usually play on, the group swing is more challenging and fun. If you come with a few friends to Huma Park and stand together on this multi-person swing, you instantly feel like a kid again. That's the joy travel brings.
The park is packed with rides, many suitable for all ages. Enjoying fun amid green mountains and clear waters is the slow-paced life many dream of.
7. Moon Swing
Just the name "Moon Swing" sounds romantic. Breathing the fresh forest air, sitting and chatting with friends on a moon-shaped swing – how pleasant that must be.
After enjoying many fun attractions downhill, let's move on and take Cable Car No. 2 for the next adventure.
Cable Car No. 2 route is about 1 kilometer, running around 10 minutes. The views are completely different from the first cable car; you can overlook the visitor center and all the internet-famous spots below. Photos taken from the cable car look almost like drone shots – you can snap blockbuster-style pictures in minutes.
8. Glass Cantilever Observation Deck
After getting off Cable Car No. 2, follow the mountain path further. From a distance, you can already see the glass cantilever observation deck suspended between blue sky and white clouds. Amid misty mountains, it looks particularly steep and treacherous.
The park's glass deck sits atop the highest peak of Qiandao Lake, Jinshan Peak. Climbing three levels, the scene before you is full of challenge. A 120-meter-long cantilevered glass walkway juts out atop an 800-meter-high green mountain. Here is not only thrill and challenge but also the best photo spot at Qiandao Lake.
"If I say I'm second, who dares claim first?" This bold claim comes from Huma Park's glass deck. Why? Huma's deck cantilevers 108 meters from the cliff, over 40 meters longer than the current Guinness World Record holder.
Put on shoe covers and stroll onto the transparent glass walkway. With a mountain breeze, you can feel a slight sway. The walkway floor is fully transparent. Standing at the circular end, overlooking Qiandao Lake's beauty, is a truly unique challenge.
Reach the circular part of the deck, and you're 800 meters above the ground. Right beneath your feet lie Qiandao Lake's landscapes. A gentle breeze blows, and the scenery is poetic. From this angle, it's as if you're hovering above the lake, overlooking it all with a god's-eye view – an unparalleled experience. Standing high against the wind brings indescribable contentment.
Standing quietly at the deck's very edge, I see distant mountains like elegant brows and near mists like wisps of smoke. Qiandao Lake, like a gentle Jiangnan maiden, shows her most beautiful side. This ink-wash painting-like scenery captivates at every step.
Before the 1950s, Qiandao Lake had a lovely name: Qianfengjun (Myriad Peak Valleys). In 1959, the Xin'an River Hydropower Station – China's first self-designed and self-built large-scale hydropower station – was built, damming the river to form an artificial lake. The scene of countless islands now looks dreamlike. I lose myself in this pristine hidden land. At this moment, time stands still; I forget what era I'm in.
The glass deck has three levels, each offering a different kind of beauty. Photography enthusiasts should explore various angles. Looking up from the second level at the suspended glass deck, it resembles a mirror of the blue sky.
Fly a drone 200 meters up and look down: the glass deck appears spectacular against the mighty green mountains. The structure is welded steel, and the deck uses triple-layer tempered glass – extremely safe. A single glass panel can bear up to one ton, so fearlessly walk on!
9. Dry Glass Slide
After descending from the glass deck, walk a short mountain path, and I recommend taking the slide down for extra fun. The glass slide is 480 meters long, starting at Jinshan Peak and ending at Gaoqiu Mountain; sliding generally takes about 4 minutes.
Sliding downhill instantly brought me back to childhood, to those joyful moments tirelessly playing on playground slides – probably a memory for many. But Huma Park's glass slide is far more thrilling: 480 meters long with continuous twists, the slide is filled with visitors' happy laughter.
10. Alpine Coaster
When we entered the park and reached Gaoqiu Mountain, we took the ropeway; going down, we might as well try the alpine coaster. Introduced from New Zealand, this coaster runs 4.6 kilometers and takes about eight minutes. Before starting, you're equipped with professional protective gear, and staff teach you how to operate it – the park pays meticulous attention to detail.
The coaster is easy to operate: just squeeze both brake handles to control your speed. If you're daring enough, you can even drift! Non-stop downhill turns fill the journey with thrills and adventure.
