Affordable Luxury Stargazing: Discover a New Way to Experience Zhejiang~
As someone with ancestral roots in Zhejiang, Hangzhou, Anji, Moganshan... are places I keep coming back to. This time, I chose a self-driving trip~ Behind the wheel of the newly launched Beijing Hyundai fifth-generation Tucson L, with modern smart tech as my co-pilot, I enjoyed bamboo groves, stargazing, and DIY projects, experiencing an affordable luxury lifestyle—utterly delightful.
The two-day weekend itinerary: DAY 1: Depart from Hangzhou Xixi, drive to Moganshan, enjoy a lawn buffet lunch at the wildly popular Anadu Manor, then indulge in light luxury interactive experiences at the manor. Drive to Anji, check into the Danian Chuyi Town, and in the evening, go stargazing and photography at Jiangnan Tianchi.~ Day 2: After a morning photo session and rest at the hotel, drive to Anji Bamboo Homestay. After lunch, experience bamboo craft culture, then a 2-hour drive back to Hangzhou Xixi.~
For self-driving travelers, a vehicle's safety and comfort are crucial—they add to the journey, making it carefree and pleasant. The Beijing Hyundai fifth-generation Tucson L I drove is a compact urban SUV. Though it's compact, its huge trunk is worth mentioning. With its L-class, crossover body size, for weekend or multi-day trips, for gearheads and luggage lovers, you sometimes need to bring big suitcases. The Tucson L can easily fit them; the trunk has a stepless height adjustment, and both front and rear seats are adjustable, with the rear seats offering four-level adjustment, making it super comfortable.
After over an hour of driving, our convoy arrived at the first stop, the trendy light luxury hotel in Moganshan—Anadu Manor. This homestay, all over social media, sits on a 30,000-square-meter hillside, featuring a stunning outdoor infinity pool, a private bamboo grove, a large lawn, open mountain views, and starry bubble suites. It's a must-visit spot for aesthetics lovers.
The manor offers heartwarming service. Besides a high-style stay experience, they also serve a distinctive and sumptuous lunch—star-rated ingredients customized into exclusive Chinese and Western dishes, all from a seasonal selection.
We stayed over four hours, with lunch on the outdoor lawn, a fusion Chinese-Western barbecue buffet. Even in the summer heat, under these practical yet stylish tents, it didn't feel stuffy. Fresh seasonal bayberries, assorted fruits, fresh juices, seafood, and not-too-sweet desserts, accompanied by gentle breezes, made for a thoroughly pleasant experience.
After eating and drinking our fill, we rested a while in the lobby area, then set out to experience driving fun around the bamboo forest.
The bamboo forest path is steeper compared to the highway. The Tucson L can adjust power distribution ratios according to driving mode, and three dashboard themes awaken your vitality.
Outside, the bamboo forest air is fresh, and the Tucson L's interior environment is no slouch either. Using engine coolant heat to suppress microorganism growth on the evaporator core, a PM1.0-level air conditioning filter ensures pure, clean air inside. It can, based on Baidu air quality data, prompt you on the central screen to turn on the air purification function when the cabin air isn't okay. Staying fresh inside during long drives is really important.
Back at Anadu Manor, they had arranged a wealth of interactive activities in the afternoon.
Leather craft was held on the outdoor lawn, each person got a material kit.
Under the teacher's guidance, we made a one-of-a-kind keychain; the process was fun, and the hammering was joyful.
Next, bamboo tube rice cooking.
For someone who only eats but doesn't cook, the process of making bamboo tube rice is simple: put raw rice and ingredients into a washed bamboo tube, fill to about 80%, mix well, then cook for about 40 minutes. A DIY bamboo tube rice is ready to serve—nice!
After a simple tea break, the tea art tasting session was full of substance.
In the third workshop, the tasting instructor explained the benefits of different teas and how to choose, and we learned a lot while sampling according to our preferences.
Alright, set off for the next stop: Anji. Hit the highway!
In terms of safety, the Tucson L is equipped with advanced intelligent driving assistant technology. Front ultrasonic radar can detect pedestrians and vehicles for timely stopping to ensure safety; a high-definition rear camera makes reversing easy. There's also an automatic speed adjustment function, helping avoid traffic violations—truly worry-free and reassuring. When you turn on the lights, the design is captivating. The Beijing Hyundai fifth-generation Tucson L features 'Eagle Wing' LED hidden daytime running lights, paired with eagle-claw style taillights, looking super sleek, exuding a sharp sense of fashion.
I had long heard of Danian Chuyi Scenic Town, and this time I chose to stay there.
At the heart of the town lies the most concentrated cluster of functional buildings. There's a reception center, Liangshan International Conference Center, Good Times Teahouse, two restaurants (Painted Boat and Mountain Beyond Mountain), a book bar, water recreation, a cinema, and fishing—everything you could want.
Guest rooms are scattered around, with electric carts as the transportation within the town. The greenery is lush, and the air quality is excellent—the resort atmosphere is palpable.
A beautiful day in the town, one could get lost in the mountain scenery.
The restaurant at Danian Chuyi has large private rooms; a hearty dinner replenished the day's energy. The dishes were very well-cooked, including local specialties like bamboo shoots and fish, incredibly fresh.
In the evening, we took part in a very interesting activity: stargazing at Anji's Jiangnan Tianchi.
The road was actually a bit tricky, but luckily the fifth-gen Tucson L is equipped with smart active safety features + sturdy passive safety, so smart, safe driving was a breeze. The large central screen has soft, non-glaring light, buttons as easy as a phone, loaded with apps and customizable widgets. And there's the voice assistant we all love to call on: 'Xiao Du, Xiao Du,' allowing you to handle other needs without distracting from driving.
At Jiangnan Tianchi's observatory, there's a very professional stargazing class where you lie down to watch the life and death mysteries of stars. Afterwards, the instructor kindly shared popular astronomy knowledge. After learning the proper way to stargaze, we went back outside to appreciate and practice—fun and romantic.
I fell asleep hazily, woke up naturally, packed up, then followed the guide to drive about 40 minutes to Anji Bamboo Homestay.
Living off bamboo, there's no better place for lunch. Ingredients are the freshest of the season: home-raised chicken, fresh fish from the reservoir, and vegetables just dug from the garden—a pure, eco-friendly farm-to-table experience.
Amid wild springs, cooking smoke, and white clouds, after the meal we tried traditional handicraft making, stealing half a day of leisure to slow down life.
Bamboo weaving and bamboo carving are distinctive local activities.
You can take home the woven fruit baskets and trays; local villagers teach step by step. With a bit of patience, you'll finish quickly—very satisfying.
Bamboo in life, bamboo for fun, quiet bamboo conversations.
Babbling brooks, bamboo groves and rice paddies, croaking frogs and chirping insects, distant mountains veiled in mist.
On the way back, mostly on the highway, the fatigue after two days and monotonous roads can easily make you lose focus. That's when you can turn on the HDA (Highway Driving Assist) system, which uses radar and cameras to check the distance to the car ahead in real time. If the car in front accelerates or decelerates, your vehicle automatically follows or maintains the distance—a trail car godsend for road trips.
We returned to Hangzhou right at dusk, with the beautiful West Lake scenery unfolding before us. The delightful weekend drew to a close. Looking forward to the next wonderful trip~
