In early to mid-June 2024, during a cruise tour from Chongqing to Shanghai called [Century Legend + Ode to Mountains and Rivers + Yangtze Three Gorges 11 Days], I visited Mount Jiuhua. Photos taken at Mount Jiuhua.

Chizhou, also known as Qiupu, has long been hailed as the "land of eternal poets." Located in Anhui Province, Chizhou is a provincial-level historical and cultural city, and it is home to Mount Jiuhua, one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains in China. Pictured is a guide map of Mount Jiuhua.

The Lotus Buddha Land – Mount Jiuhua, located in Chizhou City, Anhui Province, boasts stunning scenery and numerous ancient temples. Together with Mount Emei in Sichuan, Mount Wutai in Shanxi, and Mount Putuo in Zhejiang, it is known as one of China's four great Buddhist mountains. Photo taken at Mount Jiuhua.

Mount Jiuhua was not originally called Jiuhua; during the Tang Dynasty, it was named Jiuzi Mountain. Because the mountain peaks are beautiful, with 99 peaks in total, nine of which rise above the clouds, it was called Jiuzi Mountain. Photo taken at Mount Jiuhua.

During the Tianbao era, the immortal poet Li Bai visited twice and wrote timeless verses such as "Miaoyou divides the two qi, the sacred mountain opens the nine huas" and "The Tianhe hangs green water, showing off the nine hibiscus." Thus, the mountain got its name Jiuhua, which has been used ever since. Photo taken at Mount Jiuhua.

Mount Jiuhua Scenic Area covers 120 square kilometers and has 99 peaks, with the most majestic being Tiantai, Shiwang, Lianhua, and Tianzhu. Photo taken at Mount Jiuhua.

Mount Jiuhua thrives due to Buddhism, and Buddhism is shaped by the mountain's form. The mountain is composed of granite, with steep and soaring peaks, earning it the title of "Number One Mountain in the Southeast." Photo taken at Mount Jiuhua.

Mount Jiuhua is crowded with devotees and dotted with temples, with over 90 temples still existing today. Photo taken at Mount Jiuhua.

Mount Jiuhua is the dojo of Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva, who made the vow: "If hell is not empty, I will not become a Buddha; only when all sentient beings are saved will I attain Bodhisattvahood." Photo shows the dojo of Baisui Palace on Mount Jiuhua.

A commemorative photo I took at Baisui Palace.

As the dojo of Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva, Mount Jiuhua continuously reveals incarnate bodhisattvas (14 documented), which is a major feature of Buddhism on the mountain and also adds a layer of mystery to this sacred Buddhist mountain. Pictured is one of the incarnate bodhisattvas of Mount Jiuhua.
