Embrace Grassland Charm on a Spur-of-the-Moment Trip
In the sweltering summer heat, body and mind grow restless—take a spur-of-the-moment trip!
Escape the noise and gloom of the city, lose yourself in the wide-open grasslands, relax, gaze out from horseback, and witness the extraordinary beauty of sunrise and sunset. Come to the grasslands for a summer escape and enjoy a cool 17°C season! Just outside Beijing, I discovered a hidden gem – China Horse Town Tourist Resort.
I couldn't contain my restless heart, so I packed light and set off for Dancing Horse World!
From Beijing, it's just a three-hour drive – upon arrival we checked into Dream Horse Hotel and dropped off our gear. The hotel has top-notch facilities, with architecture inspired by Tibetan style and decor rich in ethnic cultural flair. The five-star service is every bit as good as big-name hotels, and they offer various room types, including family suites perfect for those traveling with kids.
The hotel is about a 15-minute walk to the scenic area. Inside, you'll find streets lined with old-style buildings, costumed characters, and performances everywhere – you'll instantly feel like you've traveled back in time, and your pace will slow right down.
Must-see attractions here are 'Warrior Zhao Zilong' and 'Grassland Silk Road'.
'Warrior Zhao Zilong' is performed at Theater No. 1. This live-action show recreates the story of Zhao Zilong's single-handed rescue of his young lord during the late Eastern Han dynasty. Interspersed with impressive equestrian stunts and a rousing plot, it brought the smoke and chaos of that battlefield era vividly before my eyes.
'Grassland Silk Road' uses grassland culture as its historical backdrop, recreating the prosperity of the Bashang grasslands and slowly unfurling a picture scroll of prairie history. Gorgeous dance sequences, gripping storytelling, breathtaking horseback acrobatics, dazzling lighting, and the utter dedication of the professional cast kept my eyes glued every second – the beauty of the grasslands was portrayed to perfection!
Definitely try the grass skiing and go-karting projects – thrilling and addictive, and there are no safety worries. The staff are very responsible, doing thorough checks before you start and explaining all the precautions. Both spots are also fantastic for photos:
The grass skiing track has a built-in rainbow effect, so even on cloudy days your photos will pop.
With go-karting, a casual snapshot turns you into a cool, edgy racing goddess in no time.
You can also feed the adorable alpacas and lambs!! I was super excited for my first close encounter with an alpaca and took full advantage of feeding time to give one a good stroke – fluffy, plump, and so soft, my heart just melted!
The square is packed with amusement rides: roller coasters, a pirate ship, water bumper boats, a carousel, a Ferris wheel, bumper cars – you name it, they've got it, and you can play to your heart's content.
When you're tired, head over to the adjacent food street, which offers all kinds of tasty snacks, drinks, and desserts to satisfy different cravings. Be sure to try the Number One Roast Lamb Restaurant, where they roast whole lamb on site and serve it six ways – the roasting process is meticulous and full of ceremony. And of course, besides the roast whole lamb, there are many other restaurants featuring grassland specialties: 903 Music Restaurant & Bar, Bashang Coarse Grain Restaurant, Great Khan Copper Hot Pot, and more. I won't list them all here.
In the evening, don't miss the electrifying music party at Theater No. 7 – let the beats sweep you away and dance with the crowd, reveling in pure joy.
At China Horse Town, you can soak up the endless plains and the freedom of riding, wander through charming old-world streets, enjoy vivid and graceful performances, and take advantage of a full range of entertainment facilities. Cap it all off with the high-energy beats, all set against a backdrop of comfortable, cool grassland scenery. Grab a few friends and remember: #EscapeTheHeatAtChinaHorseTown!
