After too long in the city, escape the tangled towers of concrete and steel, ride the breeze, stand on this vast land, and take in the blue sky, white clouds, and endless green grasslands – pure healing!

#CoolOffAtChinaHorseTown – an amusement park right on the prairie! Just spent an awesome weekend here on the grasslands with friends, and I’m super happy!

P.S. This is China Horse Town, in Fengning Bashang Grassland, Hebei – a cool summer escape. Come experience 17°C summer!

We drove to China Horse Town from Beijing, about a 3-hour road trip. Left Beijing at 8am and checked into the hotel by 11am. I suggest a 2- or 3-day weekend trip! Leave Beijing in the morning, settle into your hotel in the afternoon, spend your first day soaking in prairie views and watching performances at Dancing Horse World, then spend the whole second day playing at the Dancing Horse World theme park!

We stayed at the Dream Horse Hotel, getting the full five-star grassland hospitality treatment. The hotel is super close to Dancing Horse World – about a 15-minute walk – and just 10 minutes on foot to the food street!

After check-in, it was almost lunchtime. Dream Horse Hotel has a buffet lunch for guests – only 99 yuan per person, a total steal!

After lunch, of course we headed straight to Dancing Horse World! Right inside the entrance, a gorgeous carriage waits – how could you not snap a photo here? Hop on, strike a pose, and you’ve got instant royal princess vibes.

This wildly fun theme park isn’t just for families; grown-ups will find plenty of their own fun too. Again, plan a 2- or 3-day weekend trip: leave Beijing in the morning, settle into your hotel in the afternoon, enjoy grassland views and shows on day one, then go all out at the theme park on day two!

Dancing Horse World features six themed zones: Tea-Horse Memories, Heart of the Steed, Royal Pasture, Hero Legends, Sky Galloping, and Speed Arena. Grass sliding and go-karting are absolute must-dos on the prairie!

There are kids’ rides, play facilities, and up-close animal interactions – families with little ones shouldn’t miss it!

Besides the ponies, check out the Royal Stables, where each horse has its own spacious, spotless stall. Akhal-Tekes, Mongolian horses, Arabians, Welsh ponies – each one worth over a million, living here in truly royal style.

For activities, I can’t recommend grass sliding and go-karting enough! Trendy girls must check these off their lists. You can release all your stress here, leaving every worry behind – it’s crazy therapeutic. The go-kart track is huge; you can race until your heart’s content. Grab a couple of friends and turn it into a friendly speed showdown!

Grass sliding is right next to the go-karts, about a 15-minute walk. You do have to climb a lot of stairs, but the moment you reach the top, it’s so worth it! From the high platform, you can take in the entire Dancing Horse World landscape – every view laid out beneath you, and the rush as you slide down is pure excitement!

Once you’re tired from playing, go watch a big show! The live-action performance “God of War Zhao Zilong” is incredible, with seriously epic sound effects. Set during the Battle of Changban at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, it tells the story of Zhao Yun charging twice alone into Cao Cao’s camp to rescue Lady Gan and Liu Shan. Amid the fire and chaos, a few blasts genuinely startled me. When it ended, I wanted to say a huge thank-you to all the performers – you put on a spectacular show!

Besides “Zhao Zilong,” there’s also magic show “Guardian of Time,” perfect for families, and they’ll even pick a lucky kid from the audience to come on stage!

Don’t miss the evening show “Grassland Silk Road”! It’s packed with exotic charm that reveals a different side of the grasslands. The performers aren’t confined to the stage – during the climax, they come right into the audience for thrilling up-close interaction. So surprising!

After “Grassland Silk Road,” I’d planned to head back to the hotel, but music pulled me to the Grassland Electronic Music Party! Let it all out, summoned by those sizzling beats. Only regret: I wasn’t here on a weekend. On Saturday and Sunday nights at 9pm, there’s a fireworks show – the kind of fireworks you can’t see in the city anymore. I missed it, and it breaks my heart! Next time, I’m definitely coming back to soak in that grassland firework romance!

Great fun, and great food! You absolutely can’t pass up the local specialty Horse Power Cake – it’s so delicious! Soft, chewy, with a variety of fillings: original yogurt, hawthorn cream cheese, black bean cheese, and more. I’ve added another item to my inevitable repeat-buy snack list! And the town’s signature ice cream – tasty, affordable, brimming with milky goodness. Too bad I can’t bring some back to Beijing!

Wiped out after day one? Sleep in on the second day, then stroll to the nearby food street for a leisurely lunch. Right as you arrive, you’re greeted by a massive statue that’s quintessentially China Horse Town – snap a casual shot and it looks like a blockbuster!

On the grasslands, naturally, you have to try the roast whole lamb – six ways to enjoy it. One: crispy skin; two: meat; three: ribs; four: skewered; five: the spine (yangxiezi); six: broth. Even if you’re wary of lamb scent, you must try it here. The meat is totally free of gaminess, tender and fine – don’t miss out.

You can now book tickets on the official China Horse Town resort app or mini program. They offer standalone park tickets as well as hotel packages for different needs – so hassle-free! Perfect for spontaneous trips where you don’t want to do any planning.

Dancing Horse World blends education and fun with horse culture at its heart. After taking in most of the shows on day one, you can dive back in on day two to explore! There are still surprises waiting – Wind Moon Tower, Three Kingdoms Street Arena, Manchu Folklore Courtyard, and more. I won’t spoil everything; let’s keep a little mystery!

So, after reading this guide, are you tempted? Whether with friends, your partner, or the whole family – #CoolOffAtChinaHorseTown. Dream with horses, and make the most of your time.
