Ma Town Grassland: A Cool Summer Blast!
Ride a chestnut pony
on Ma Town’s grasslands,
watch clouds roll and stretch, the sun peek and hide,
and set free your weary, travel-worn spirit~
Ma Town lies on the Fengning Bashang Grassland in Hebei, the closest grassland to Beijing. With an average summer temperature of just 17°C (63°F), it’s a perfect summer escape—you can play outdoors without ever breaking a sweat! It’s also an ideal spot for a short getaway with friends or a family trip with the kids!
【Dancing Horse World Theme Park】
Dancing Horse World features six major themed zones: Royal Ranch, Speed Racing, Pegasus Soaring, Equestrian Spirit, Tea Horse Memory, and Hero Legend. The park is enormous, and every zone is worth exploring. Here, not only children but also adults can find their own kind of fun!!!
【Three Kingdoms Street】
This street is set against the backdrop of the Three Kingdoms era, where you can fully immerse yourself in the life of that period. Staff dressed in period costumes—soldiers, magistrates, courtesan houses, beggars, fortune tellers—roam everywhere. When you see this, hurry to the entrance to rent a gorgeous Hanfu outfit and start your photo-worthy adventure!
【Royal Stables】
You might think visiting a stable always leaves you messy. But! The Royal Stables have no unpleasant smells at all! Each horse has its own clean, independent space, and many of them are rare world-class breeds, including top-20 horses like the Arabian and Dutch Warmblood—all on display here! (Inner thought: I instantly felt like European nobility!)
Kids who love riding or have never tried it must not miss this!! The Royal Stables offer gentle ponies specially for children, with very thorough safety measures. Parents, bring your little ones to experience it! Besides hands-on fun and up-close contact, you’ll also learn about horses, broadening your child’s horizons.
Here, step on the gas and enjoy some speed and thrills with friends! The go-karts are well-equipped with seat belts, and staff will help you put on your helmet. Don’t worry if you can’t drive—it’s super easy to pick up. Just chat with the staff for a few tips, and you’ll be racing in no time!
Surprised by the name? Can you really slide on grass?
Haha, yes! Not only can you slide, but you’ll also get gorgeous photos~ The slope isn’t too steep, so kids and grown-ups alike can join. This giant grass slide gives adults a taste of childhood fun again, with screams of thrill as you whiz down! Ladies, it’s best to wear pants or a long skirt—short skirts aren’t very convenient.
Theaters 1 to 10 offer fantastic shows every day, and you probably can’t catch them all, so plan your time wisely. Here are some of my favorites~
【God of War: Zhao Zilong】
“God of War: Zhao Zilong” tells the story of the legendary general Zhao Zilong’s lone ride to save the young lord at Changban Slope during the late Eastern Han Dynasty. The plot is gripping, the scenes heart-pounding, and the battlefield is brought back to life with dust and sand flying—truly awe-inspiring. The actors’ performances and stunts are excellent, especially the horseback combat that delivers a visual and auditory shock, making you feel like you’re right there. Totally worth experiencing.
【Grassland Silk Road】
“Grassland Silk Road” follows five members of a tribe who interact with different ethnic groups along the grassland Silk Road, weaving a story of cultural fusion.
This is a dance-based stage play that combines multiple performance styles, with dance at its core telling the whole drama. Even though the actors have no spoken lines, you can still feel the tight and complete storyline.
【Electronic Music Party】
You may have partied in many places… but have you ever danced on the grasslands? The Ma Town Electronic Music Party lets you experience the joy of an open-air rave, with professional lighting and sound, plus DJs and bands that are incredibly infectious! The vibe is absolutely explosive, rivaling any electronic music festival! Don’t miss it at night!!!

Mali Cake is a special snack of Ma Town—soft, chewy, with a sweet red bean filling. It makes a perfect souvenir for family and friends~ Once you leave Ma Town, you won’t find it anywhere else, so foodies, don’t miss out.
The snack street is packed with all kinds of treats: beer houses, kebab shops, music restaurants… I won’t list them all, but I highly recommend the roast whole lamb restaurant—【Number One Roast Whole Lamb Restaurant】
When you’re on the grassland, you must try roast whole lamb!
This place not only offers amazing taste but also a ceremonial experience: the costumed host, known as the “Beile,” will guide you through the “six ways to eat one lamb.”
When the roast lamb is brought out, the whole room fills with its sizzling aroma. One bite reveals juicy, tender meat with a crispy exterior—pure delight~
【Dream Horse Hotel】
A trip should be about great fun, great food, and great accommodations!
I strongly suggest staying at the Dream Horse Hotel! The rooms are spotlessly clean.
The hotel follows a Tibetan-style architecture, rich in Tibetan cultural features. Look out from your window, and you’ll see the boundless grassland, blue skies, and white clouds—a stunning view! In the evening, you can watch a beautiful sunset right from your room, and in the morning, you can see the first rays of sun rising in the distance.
All in all, Ma Town is well worth a visit. I recommend a 2–3 day weekend trip: on day one, check in and enjoy the spectacular shows; on day two, spend the whole day at Dancing Horse World. Don’t forget to sample Ma Town’s specialty foods and bring back some Mali Cakes to share with family and friends.
Warm tips: Mornings and evenings can be chilly here, so pack a light jacket and don’t catch a cold.
