In Lijiang, whether you are in Dayan Ancient Town or close to Shuhe Ancient Town, the selling point is being able to view the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain from the hotel. Only this hotel is located inside the snow mountain scenic area, with Jade Dragon to the west, seemingly within reach, and within walking distance of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Visitor Center. Today, I came to this very hotel: the Lijiang Jinmao Puxiu Snow Mountain Hotel.

Commanding an Unrivaled Prime Location

Managed by Jinmao Hotels Group, known for creating iconic hotels, whether it's the Grand Hyatt inside Shanghai Jin Mao Tower, the epic luxury Jinmao Ritz-Carlton in Yalong Bay, Sanya, or the Jinmao Renaissance Beijing in the prime Wangfujing location, all are impressive. And this one in Lijiang is the only luxury resort hotel within the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain National Scenic Area.

The mere process of checking in highlights its uniqueness. All guests must first go to the front desk of the Jinmao Hyatt Regency Lijiang in northern Lijiang city to register and obtain a mountain entry permit, then take a 30-minute drive to the hotel. Along the way, you pass through the ticket checkpoint of Lijiang Snow Mountain Scenic Area; with the permit you enter for free, otherwise you need to buy a ticket at your own expense.

Tip: There is a free daily shuttle bus (reservation required) between the Jinmao Hyatt Regency Lijiang and the Jinmao Puxiu Snow Mountain Hotel, which is the most cost-effective way to reach the snow mountain hotel.

The hotel is located at Ganhaizi Meadow at an altitude of 3100 meters. To the east is Cimeige Mountain, and to the west is the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Golf Club. The first visitor center for all tourists entering Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is at the fork leading to the hotel. Whether going to the Impressions Lijiang theater, taking the Glacier Cable Car, or the Blue Moon Valley eco-bus, this is the necessary route.

However, I discovered an even more wonderful spot: the hotel's yoga room. Outside the yoga room is a water feature platform, and from there you can see the "Golden Mountain" with its reflection! The best time to enjoy the Golden Mountain at Sunrise is between 6:30 and 8:00 am. The sun rises late and climbs slowly; the process from the first glow to the golden light covering the mountain top is best captured with time-lapse photography!

This hotel complex built on the highland meadow adopts a traditional Naxi ancient village design, higher in the east and lower in the west, with distinct layers. Despite the large complex, there are only 89 guest rooms, all of which are suites or villas.

The rooms are distributed in separate traditional village-style buildings surrounded by beautifully arranged courtyards, full of life and a relaxing atmosphere. The eaves with classical Chinese beauty, the building style merging brick and wood in harmony with the natural environment, create a wonderful living space that relaxes the body and mind.

Each guest room building is different, resulting in varied room layouts. The only common feature is that all rooms have a stunning 180-degree unobstructed oversized private terrace with the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain seemingly within reach.

The smallest suite starts at 86 square meters. The warm wood tones give an understated luxury. Extensive use of rustic solid wood, decorated with Naxi daily objects, provides a strong sense of place. Meanwhile, the rooms feature floor heating, a deep soaking bathtub, and from the bedside control panel to toiletries, bedding, and tea sets, the details of a luxury hotel are fully displayed, like a warm home at the foot of the snow mountain.

The Snow Mountain Executive Suite has a spacious 134 square meters. Besides a more spectacular terrace, it also creates an indoor relaxation space with a view. The more separate bedroom cleverly frames the snow mountain scenery with floor-to-ceiling windows, turning the Jade Dragon into a backdrop painting, making you reluctant to pull the curtains.

As the only full-service restaurant within the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain scenic area, the Snow View Pavilion becomes the most frequented place during your stay. The restaurant's design is also noteworthy, incorporating various Naxi Dongba elements, and even featuring an impressive decorative design inspired by colored sand mandala art. Of course, another highlight is the restaurant's outdoor terrace, another great spot in the hotel to enjoy the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain view.

I chose to have breakfast on the outdoor terrace, waking up together with the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.

I also chose to taste the highly acclaimed yak meat hotpot here. The unexpectedly tender and fresh texture gave me a brand new understanding of yak meat as an ingredient. No wonder some visitors come specially to enjoy the yak meat hotpot after touring the snow mountain; it seems to have become an indispensable part of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain experience.

Afternoon tea is also available here, allowing you to enjoy the view and the taste, whiling away the time in a slow lifestyle.

Rich Entertainment Facilities

The hotel's own gym, despite the snow mountain view, is probably not suitable for most guests due to high-altitude anaerobic exercise.

Initially, I came to this hotel for the snow mountain, but unexpectedly I was captivated by the hotel's other rich activities. The daily activity butler at the front desk arranged everything wonderfully.

In the afternoon, I experienced a hand drum lesson. At the foot of the snow mountain, I listened to the teacher explain the origin of the drum and rhythm control, gradually learning to drum with rhythmic breathing (as background).

At night, I could go to the hotel's science museum to participate in the Starry Night themed activity. Indoors, the teacher explained the recent popular super moon, meteor showers, etc. Then we went outdoors to stargaze. Due to weather, this time we looked at the moon, and the teacher even took photos for us. This experience was truly wonderful and unforgettable.

Furthermore, it takes only 5 minutes from the hotel to the Blue Moon Valley scenic area bus transfer station. You can admire the snow mountain from afar without climbing, but you absolutely must visit Blue Moon Valley at least once.

Returning to the hotel in the evening, book a 90-minute spa treatment to relieve the day's fatigue and the "oppressed feeling" caused by thin oxygen. That is the purest total body-mind relaxation.
