About Lijiang, there has always been a longing – the tinkling of water in winding, secluded paths, the simple elegance among blue-green tiles and white walls; or the majestic Yulong Snow Mountain towering, with surging rivers rushing unrestrained. Indeed, every stretch of landscape here carries the imprint of time, as if traversing ancient and modern. Yet I always had a question: what is the true 'essence' of Lijiang? Steering clear of noisy bars and cookie-cutter shops, I didn't hesitate to fly alone to Lijiang, to the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain – the Snow Mountain Canyon, to experience a different kind of time-travel journey.

Snow Mountain Canyon Park is located in the Dongba Valley scenic area. From Lijiang city, drive all the way toward Yulong Snow Mountain to arrive. With secluded meadows and vast pine forests, and the panoramic view of the thirteen peaks of Jade Dragon as a backdrop, a two-hour immersive tour began. 'Snow Mountain Myth', 'The Storm of Mu Mansion'... scrolls of epic masterpieces slowly unfolded, and I felt as if I had already stepped into the mysterious land of Dongba, the time-travel journey about to begin.

The Grand Show Begins, Time Travel Imminent

Entering the park, set against the majestic Yulong Snow Mountain, the central square featured a spectacular stage. Soldiers opened the show with drumming, and dancers descended from the sky with blue sky and white clouds as their backdrop, like fairies dancing to the drumbeats. Their smiles and passion were the best welcome, representing the simple Naxi culture and authentic Dongba culture. Accompanied by the welcome drumming, local Lijiang figures 'Master Mu' Mu Zeng and Alei Qiu emerged from the highly restored ancient architectural complex of 'The Storm of Mu Mansion', recreating classic scenes and warmly greeting every guest. Encountering these people, emotions, and sights from Mu Mansion, I suddenly felt transported to the land of Lijiang four hundred years ago.

The performance lasted only about 10 minutes, but each actor performed spins and flips descending from the sky, and martial arts moves like somersaults in armor weighing over ten jin, which was both awe-inspiring and worthy of applause for the professional and exquisite recreation.

Mystic Flower Sea, A Stunning Picture Scroll

As I lingered in the music and laughter of the opening show, walking forward brought a fragrant breeze. Suddenly, a sea of interwoven galsang flowers and cherry blossoms appeared, each cluster swaying gently at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Against the strong contrast of blue and pink, any snapshot with a phone became a breathtaking picture.

Unity of Heaven and Man: Praying Together

After passing through the flower sea, the blessing ceremony commenced. Actors, also dressed in splendid Naxi ethnic costumes, wearing five-blessing crowns and holding dagu drums, approached. The singing echoed around, cleansing the soul; the dancing was stirring and memorable. This was a thousand-year-old blessing ritual of Lijiang, meant to bring happiness to every guest. Surrounded by snow mountains, we prayed together, feeling the greatness of nature and life.

Mirror of Snow Mountain: Fresh and Ethereal

The majesty of the snow mountain runs through the park. Unlike the flower sea, the photo spots after the blessing show were even more fresh and ethereal. Mirror platforms held up shells, and every smile seemed like a pearl on the summit of the snow mountain.

The glass bridge in Snow Mountain Canyon Performance Park is renowned as the No. 1 bridge in western Yunnan. It is high and steep, testing visitors' courage. But against the blue sky and white clouds, looking through the glass floor, it felt as if the snow mountain was faintly beneath my feet. This sensation of walking on clouds and mist at the pinnacle is probably only experienced here.

Return to Nature, Rediscover Yourself

Walking across, I arrived in a secluded canyon. The pristine forest, far from the clamor of the world, has retained its appearance for thousands of years – lush and green, with scattered caves, exotic flowers and birds... Every shade of green conveyed abundance and mystery, every birdcall a transmission of life's Zen. The dense vegetation made the canyon a natural oxygen bar. Following the paths, my breathing gradually calmed, shedding the journey's irritation and stress, leaving only the tranquility of the deep valley. Suddenly, a rumbling sound of water broke the silence – a waterfall formed naturally in the valley. The interplay of motion and stillness, I surrendered body and mind to nature, embracing peace.

The Storm of Mu Mansion: Love Amidst Mountains and Water

Passing through the forest and walking a distance, I finally arrived at the grand immersive drama of 'The Storm of Mu Mansion: Love Amidst Mountains and Water'. Passing through the clamor, I wondered if one could still be moved by this epic love. The bloody storms within and outside the Naxi Mu clan in Lijiang, the historically celebrated Mu Zeng and Alei Qiu, and their love... This time, answers could be found here.

'The Storm of Mu Mansion' revolves around the governance of the Naxi Mu chieftain in Lijiang during the Ming Dynasty. Through a series of tumultuous tales, it narrates the bloody struggles, grudges, and conflicts within and outside the Mu clan. Since the Yuan Dynasty, the Mu family inherited the chieftainship for 22 generations over 470 years, spanning Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, a remarkably long history.

Here, the past battlefields and buildings transformed into vivid scenes: Mu Zeng carving scriptures, gold mine robberies, the Ancient Tea Horse Road, the valley of love sacrifice, the Mu Mansion Academy... The recreation of these classic scenes elevated the time-travel feeling, allowing me to experience the most authentic 'Storm of Mu Mansion' on the spot. Through the visit, I gained deeper understanding of Mu Mansion and Naxi culture.

The upgrade of Snow Mountain Canyon Performance Park was personally directed by the team of director Yu Rongguang. To recreate the real scenes of 'The Storm of Mu Mansion', they spared no effort in sets, performances, and props, and also completed a comprehensive upgrade in many experiences and interactions. The entire tour felt like a real time-travel drama of Mu Mansion, the live-action interpretation giving me a brand-new experience of traversing time and space. It was not just an audiovisual feast but a cultural odyssey, as if I took on a new identity and role, traveling back to Lijiang a hundred years ago.

Mucun Flower Street: Delicious and Affordable

When it comes to unforgettable aspects of the park, the delicious food on Mucun Flower Street is a must. Combining Mu Mansion culture with cuisine, right inside the park I tasted Lijiang specialties: grilled potatoes, cold rice noodles, Naxi baba, crystal sugar snow pear... Not only delicious but also affordable, averaging 25 yuan per person.

One Trip, One Time Travel, One Spiritual Cultivation

The exquisite costumes, moving performances, endless flower seas, morning bird songs, valley waterfalls, towering suspension bridges, realistic experiences, and diverse cuisine... Every moment seemed to return to the Dongba paradise. Strolling through this valley where flowers bloom in all seasons, across the glass suspension bridge spanning the canyon, by the cliffside horse caravan inn filled with old objects, and in the forest courtyard with birdsong and floral fragrance, the time-travel journey left endless aftertastes and imagination.

The Mu Mansion time-travel journey in Snow Mountain Canyon lies not only in its authentic recreation but also in its perfect integration with the secret realm of the snow mountains, combining natural scenery, ethnic cultural experiences, and outdoor entertainment into one. Backed by Jade Dragon Snow Mountain's manifold charms, the viewing platform offers an unobstructed mountain panorama. In the embrace of the snowy domain, I watched clouds and basked in the breeze, rested with tea, and freely took travel photos... One trip, one time travel, one spiritual cultivation in such an unparalleled snow mountain spectacle – only then can one harvest one's own unique snow mountain memories.

Surrounded by snow mountains, amidst the crowd's chatter, the singing continued... Along this journey, it felt like I had traveled hundreds of years. With each dance, my heart seemed to remain in the ever-changing Mu Mansion. About Yunnan, about Lijiang, we have so many stories and experiences. This spur-of-the-moment trip was another release for body and soul. A different Lijiang, a different time-travel journey. Next time I come to Lijiang, beyond the ancient town, Snow Mountain Canyon Park awaits you to explore and traverse.
