What Makes the World Beautiful? Lijiang Holds the Answer.
What does travel mean?
A pair of determined feet, a backpack full of belongings,
Or a heart full of freedom, yearning for the blue sky...
Yet every child who loves to travel is an angel.
In the constant pursuit of journeys, life is always full of surprises.
And the beauty scattered in the world, unerringly, becomes a lifelong memory.
Lijiang Ancient City, a beautiful 'castle' sinking into the secular world, I just want to wander here with no distractions...
Capture the gorgeous night view of Lijiang, and take in the splendid cityscape.
Stepping into Lijiang Ancient City for the first time, all the beauty is born in my heart.
Stroll along the streets of Lijiang Ancient City, see the little bridges over flowing water, and the ancient-style buildings that fill the city.
Before I knew it, I ended up on Bar Street, where a friendly and lively atmosphere filled the air.
Write a line of blessing or a wish, and let the wish sail away with the wind.
On Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, see the snowy peaks and blue sky, leaving the deepest impression.
In recent years, industrial cities have developed rapidly, and newly built buildings have almost occupied more than half of people's living spaces. I was born in Wuhan, Hubei, and I have basically witnessed Wuhan's development over the years. Endless smog, countless traffic jams, and never-ending construction projects have placed a heavy burden on the city.
After starting work, my biggest dream was to get out and travel. My best friend shared my interest, so we found a holiday and planned to go to a beautiful city to cleanse our lungs.
So we set our sights on Yunnan—Lijiang Ancient City.
Speaking of Lijiang in Yunnan, it has always been a place I yearned for. I had heard countless wonderful stories about it, and many heartwarming encounters. The so-called 'City of Romance' refers to Lijiang.
This trip, just the two of us side by side, an adventure into Lijiang Ancient City thus began...
On a cool summer night with fireflies, walking inside the inn, there was nothing but the sound of insects chirping,
And the fragrance of flowers and trees...
Yet the happiest thing was being able to stand on the inn's rooftop and gaze at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the distance.
The room we booked with my friend was especially atmospheric.
When tired, just lie on the soft bed; when not tired, have a cup of tea with my bestie—simply perfect!
If good accommodation is a balm for the soul, then delicious food is the pleasure that satisfies the taste buds.
On my first visit to Lijiang Ancient City, apart from the local cuisine, I just wanted to calm down and sip a cup of summer tea.
Approaching the entrance, a retro atmosphere greeted me.
Just standing not far from the door, I could smell the tea aroma, rich with the scent of honey and fruit, lingering in the air.
The wooden floor underfoot was particularly charming, accented with some greenery—simple yet extraordinary.
In this exquisite making space, a richly fragrant flavor was concocted.
Even a handsome young man personally prepared it, making the photo itself a scenic view.
The shopkeeper said there's an interesting story about the 'San Qian Er' black tea. It is said that the tea leaves come from the 3,200-year-old Jinxiu Tea Ancestor in Fengqing County, Yunnan. That tea tree has witnessed 3,200 years of history—truly ancient!
The Little Orange Black Tea is also one of the shop's signatures. The sweet black tea flavor blends with the sweet and sour taste of the orange, achieving a perfect 'consensus' —every sip leaves an endless aftertaste.
Besides 'Hump Select' and 'Little Orange Black Tea', my favorite was the 'Victory Fruit Party'. It was mixed with colorful seasonal fruits and bubbling effervescence, with an extremely high appearance value!
As for bubble tea, it was my first time trying it, and it felt both fresh and surprising!
For a beautiful afternoon, a tea and dessert set was a must. The shop offers not only brewed tea but also delicious pastry and bread.
The soft crust, with a light creamy fragrance when bitten, paired with a sip of milk cap black tea—the crisp tenderness of the bread combined perfectly with the tea aroma, a true example of sweetness without being cloying.
Lijiang is a place with warm winters and cool summers. If it rains, bring an extra light jacket just in case.
Other tips: Yunnan has strong UV rays, so be sure to carry sunscreen, or your skin might end up two different colors when you get home!
[Lijiang Ancient City, a place that sets the heart at ease]
Long ago, I wanted to visit Lijiang.
Not for the allure of the 'City of Romance', not because of its fame, but for that rare peace of mind.
And the most beautiful encounters all begin in Lijiang Ancient City.
I hope for someone like you,
Like the refreshing breeze in the mountains, like the warm light of the ancient city,
From morning to night, from the countryside to the study room.
As long as it's you in the end, that's enough.
Like the words from Zhang Jiajia's 'Passing Through Your World'.
Now that I am in the ancient city, I finally understand the emotions and state of mind.
Here, there are gentle breezes, warm sunlight, and soft blue skies and white clouds.
And there's a you, a me, and a little town story we have never touched before.
Sifang Street, the center of Lijiang Ancient City, is also the liveliest area. The scenery here is the best in the ancient city, and you can also see Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the distance. Around Sifang Street are the road uphill, Bar Street, Wuyi Street, and Qiyi Street.
Bar Street is the most bustling spot in the ancient city. The bar street in Lijiang Ancient City can be divided into two types: commonly called 'noisy bars', lively and outgoing, and the other type is low-key and secluded, unique, represented by firepit bars and quiet bars scattered throughout Lijiang Ancient City.
Speaking of bars, although they are fun, you must always be cautious. There are many 'bar touts' in Lijiang bars who will strike up a conversation with you and keep drinking with you. At such times, be extra vigilant, and it's best to stay with a friend and not wander off.
Lijiang Mu Mansion is the cultural 'Grand View Garden' of Lijiang Ancient City. Since the Naxi chieftain Mu family inherited the position of native prefect in Lijiang from the Yuan Dynasty (1253), lasting 22 generations for 470 years through the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, they were known among southwestern chieftains for being 'well-versed in literature, courteous, and adherent to etiquette'. It is not to be missed. The film 'Mu Mansion Storm' was filmed here.
Wangu Tower is an iconic building in Lijiang. From the top of Wangu Tower, you can admire the entire Lijiang Ancient City and the pastoral valley, and even gaze at the eternal glaciers of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the distance. Looking from afar, the view of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is unobstructed. The name 'Wangu Tower' (Ten-Thousand-Ancient Building) symbolizes the restoration and reconstruction of Lijiang, leaving a legacy that will last for ages, immortal through the millennia.
The first time I came to Black Dragon Pool, I was awed by the landscape. It is said that Black Dragon Pool is an old scenic spot in Lijiang, and now it has been designated as a national 3A-level scenic area. Many scenes from the TV drama 'The Imperial Concubines' were filmed here years ago. With the reflections of lake and mountain, the scene is thriving. Especially at sunset, the fiery sunset against Jade Dragon Snow Mountain makes the sky appear like a fairyland.
Lijiang Ancient City is also called Dayan Town. It consists of three parts: Dayan, Baisha, and Shuhe. Dayan Ancient City is a representative site, but it has a strong commercial atmosphere. Therefore, I personally prefer Shuhe Ancient Town more. Compared to Dayan, Shuhe is more out-of-the-way and has less of its hustle and bustle. If you like tranquility and an artistic vibe, Shuhe is more suitable for you. This is the earliest settlement of the Naxi people, still preserving old houses and charming courtyards. Walking down the streets, listening to distant folk songs, at that moment, both body and spirit relax. Lijiang's ancient city is a city without walls, with smooth and clean bluestone paths, earthen-structure houses, and small bridges over flowing water everywhere, forming a lively landscape with the crowds. What you feel is not hurry, but more tranquility and relaxation. Blue sky, white clouds, a cup of coffee ☕️, and a folk song—life's joy and leisure are that simple, and it's enough...
Old-established restaurant in Shuhe. Online reviews were good. As soon as I entered, I was captivated by a young man's voice, so pleasant. We ordered based on the ranking list—wow, this fish was so delicious (in the style of Li Jiaqi, the lipstick king's lines). It was my first time trying 'water lily' (a local dish), and it was surprisingly good, although the name was a bit odd~ I looked up and saw fruit wine at the bar. Seeing 'peach blossom brew' reminded me of 'Eternal Love', so I ordered half a pot. A pot is 6 liang, but I couldn't finish it alone; my tolerance is low, but I just wanted to taste the peach blossom brew—who knew a name could be so alluring!!! Overall, five stars! Highly recommended!
Going up Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, you need to take a sightseeing cable car. Since we went during the off-season, there weren't many people in line, so it was a breeze. Coincidentally, it was a sunny day, so even wearing a padded jacket, it didn't feel very cold. After going up, we walked along the boardwalk, looking at the towering snow-capped peaks and the vast expanse of white—it felt incredibly atmospheric! Later, everyone got tired and took out their phones to take photos. Naturally, I had a great time too, presenting all sorts of beautiful pictures! The sky on Jade Dragon Snow Mountain was azure, like an upside-down sea. I can never forget the blue sky and white clouds there, nor the unique sunshine.
[Travel Epilogue]:
The three-day journey quietly ended. The day after I returned home, I still saw Lijiang in my dreams.
In the dream, I returned to Bar Street in Lijiang, drinking the strongest liquor, savoring the most sincere emotions of a foreign land.
I climbed onto the roof to look at the sky, and when I reached out to touch it, all the beauty seemed within reach.
Standing on Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, I saw the silver-white world, experiencing the sublime beauty of the high peak.
The trip to Lijiang moved me deeply.
On this journey, there was you, me, and countless sceneries.
I hope that next time we meet, neither you nor I will have changed, and the scenery will remain the same.
