Lijiang | Lieying Valley – The Longed-for Scene of Riding Horses and Enjoying Life Together with the Mortal World
I never expected that I would fulfill my childhood dream during work this year. I came to beautiful Lijiang, Yunnan on a business trip. Usually I'm busy with work, but on days off I have time. Since this business trip to Lijiang lasts two weeks, I had two days off, so I strolled through Lijiang Ancient Town and also visited Lieying Valley.
In the morning, Lijiang Ancient Town is tranquil, gentle, and slow-paced. Flowers are everywhere, smooth cobblestone paths, gurgling streams—everything slows down, and you relax along with it.
Walking alone along the bluestone paths of Lijiang Ancient Town, despite the hustle and bustle around, when I hear the sound of my footsteps against the stones, my heart is extremely peaceful. I just want to live here forever, working at sunrise and resting at sunset.
Lijiang Ancient Town has hundreds of bridges: stone arch bridges, stone slab bridges, wooden plank bridges—some rugged, some graceful—set over the murmuring water in various postures. On the banks, weeping willows droop gracefully, and bright red bougainvillea and pale yellow thousand-leaf chrysanthemums bloom unrestrainedly, as if a plain Chinese ink painting has been splashed with bold colors, extraordinarily enchanting.
Surrounded tightly by lush green mountains, the tiled houses of Lijiang Ancient Town are arranged in a patchwork of orderly rows, with colorful angular stones paving the roads, polished smooth and shiny by foot traffic, horse hooves, and rain.
Lijiang Ancient Town is lively—you can party all night—and also peaceful—you can sit for a long time in a sun-drenched courtyard lost in thought. This ancient city, filled with love and adventures, carries deep emotions and sensibility.
In Lieying Valley, the morning air is so fresh you can smell the essence of spring. Close your eyes and fully feel it; there is not a single person around, utterly quiet, except for the chirping of birds. Because there are no other sounds, the birds' calls seem especially loud.
When you slowly open your eyes and admire the surrounding scenery, you realize that 'pure nature' and 'unspoiled ecology' describe Lieying Valley perfectly. The rolling green mountains stretch endlessly, refreshing your mind, with mist curling around the peaks, giving a fairy-tale atmosphere.
From the base of the mountains, the forest gradually turns into vast meadows. The meadows are not as large as a prairie, but in my heart it felt like seeing one. The meadow area in Lieying Valley is also very large; even a horse ride around takes several minutes.
There are many people riding horses in Lieying Valley. Besides riding, visitors also wear distinctive ethnic costumes to take beautiful horse-riding photos.
There are many horse riders. Those riding obediently slowly are probably tourists. Those galloping fast and showing off various riding techniques are the equestrian guides of Lieying Valley.
This business trip is unforgettable to me. I will never forget riding a tall, sturdy horse. I may not have galloped, but I felt the sensation of galloping.
Although I have the heart of a hero, I lack the courage. I wanted to gallop but was afraid the horse would give me a hard time. So I was cautious at first, but later the horse behaved well and I relaxed. Gradually we became familiar, and I dared to pick up a slow run.
