Shanbei Xintianyou: Yan'an Zaoyuan
China is so vast, I want to see it. Let me take you to a place you may or may not have been to.
Shanbei Xintianyou: Yan'an Zaoyuan
Zaoyuan is located 8 km northwest of the old city of Yan'an. It was the site of the Central Secretariat (October 1943 – March 1947). Originally a landlord's estate, after the Central Committee settled in Yan'an, it became the base of the Central Social Affairs Department and was renamed "Yan Garden." The characters "Yan Garden" on both sides of the gate stone pillars were inscribed by Kang Sheng at that time.
Besides meetings, it also served as the dining room for the Central Secretariat, and was used for dances and film screenings.

In the autumn of 1944, Zhang Side, a soldier of the Central Guard Regiment, and his comrades were ordered to go into the Shixia Valley Mountains in Ansai County to burn charcoal. On September 5, Zhang Side and his comrades were digging a charcoal kiln in heavy rain. At the moment the kiln collapsed due to the rain, he pushed his comrade out and sacrificed himself. Chairman Mao wrote a eulogy for him: "Salute to Comrade Zhang Side, who sacrificed for the interests of the people," and delivered the famous speech "Serve the People" at Yan'an Zaoyuan.
