Yan'an Travel: This Hidden Gem Tourist Attraction Is a Must-Visit
Yan'an, the old revolutionary base area, has always been a place I longed to visit. This summer, I came to Yan'an and discovered a new red-themed scenic area—Yan'an Red Street. Yan'an Red Street is the first large-scale immersive cultural, commercial, and tourism block in China themed on red tourism, composed of a red-themed block, a cave-dwelling-themed hotel cluster, and Yan'an's only inner-city lake—Yan Lake. Let me share a practical guide after experiencing it myself.
Must-Visit Attractions at Yan'an Red Street:
"Return to Yan'an" is the first red-themed indoor situational experience play in China, and I highly recommend it. It is said that since its premiere in June, three shows daily have been almost always full. It uses a moving viewing format with no seats, offering a strong immersive atmosphere as you shift scenes while walking. It realistically simulates the snow and wind of the Long March, making you feel like the protagonist as the plot changes. You truly experience the hardships and dangers faced by the Red Army during the Long March.
The Joining Forces Experience Hall is built based on the historical event of the Central Red Army entering the city through "Anding Gate" in 1937, combined with the architectural features of Yan'an's ancient city towers. The Long March journey unfolds grandly on the first floor; standing inside, you are deeply moved by the Long March spirit. Every step taken by the revolutionary martyrs was exceptionally difficult, yet they achieved great victory amidst the hardships. Reflecting on how they created today's prosperous era, I can't help but tear up and feel a surge of righteousness. On the second floor, audio headphones allow you to listen to moving stories from the Long March, including the deeds of known and unknown heroes. The third floor is a themed live-streaming room where you can broadcast and take photos.
After walking through the Joining Forces Tower, the thousands of rivers and mountains of the Chinese revolution flow endlessly in your mind.
Red Coin Art Museum
This museum exhibits documents, commemorative coins, and medals from the currency of the Chinese Soviet National Bank through the first set of RMB issued by the People's Bank of China upon its establishment in 1948, as well as most of the five sets of RMB issued after the founding of New China. Regular study courses on currency history and financial warfare are held here—a great place for finance enthusiasts to learn.
Technology and Culture Interactive Center
The Technology and Culture Interactive Center adopts new design concepts and technological creativity, tracing the pursuit of the Yan'an Spirit as its thread and the formation of the Yan'an Spirit as its timeline, recreating the nurturing, formation, maturity, and development of the Yan'an Spirit. It also includes a book bar, tea café, etc., making it an excellent place for rest and socializing.
Heroes of the Covert Front Museum
This is the first and currently only immersive experience museum designed around the struggles of the covert front during the revolutionary war era.
The venue features three special training courses—camouflage, secret writing and covert transmission, and telegraph sending—as well as two interactive scene experiences. Fans of Republic-era spy thrillers will find it very familiar, taking you back to that war-torn, heroic revolutionary era. In the code room, you can play the role of an "underground party member" and experience a "lurking" mission. Staff in the code room will guide you on how to send coded information with a telegraph transmitter, going "beep beep."
Red Tourism Recommendation TOP1—Yan'an Red Street. In just one day at Red Street, I revisited many revolutionary stories, learned about the development of the Yan'an Spirit, and received a profound ideological cleansing. I believe I will soon bring my family and friends to "Return to Yan'an" again, to feel the strong red cultural atmosphere together.
