A Must-Visit in Yan'an: Nanniwan, the 'Jiangnan' of Northern Shaanxi
#SuperPlayer I didn't manage to go anywhere this entire summer, and I felt something was missing. I really didn't want to miss this beautiful season. Summer in northern Shaanxi is very short, and by early autumn, the temperature difference between day and night becomes significant. By September, the temperature difference can reach about 15 degrees Celsius. Over the weekend, my wife suggested we take the family for a drive to Nanniwan. I thought it was a great idea, so we set off on a short trip, and I also took the opportunity to break in my new car on the highway and really test its performance in various conditions. The route we chose was a one-day trip to Nanniwan, partly on the highway and partly on low-speed roads. The low-speed roads weren't in great condition, which was perfect for testing the car's off-road capability. On the highway, the power felt adequate, but I noticed that when I pressed the accelerator hard, the revs would rise quickly, but there was a slight delay before the speed picked up. The lag wasn't very obvious, and I'll see if it improves after more driving. After the highway, we took a low-speed road and tried a dirt track. The car's off-road capability was surprisingly good. Over bumpy sections, we barely felt any jolts, and it passed smoothly — something I hadn't expected. Throughout the drive from highway to low-speed roads, we had the air conditioning on and the windows up, but the smell inside the new car was still quite strong. My wife and daughter said it made them feel dizzy, so for the rest of the journey, we turned off the AC and rolled down the windows.
In early autumn, Nanniwan is still very beautiful. The slightly yellowing rice paddies in the fields remind me of the song that goes, "The fine Jiangnan of northern Shaanxi," and the Nanniwan spirit. During the Great Production Campaign in Nanniwan, the anti-Japanese soldiers and civilians represented by the 359th Brigade of the Eighth Route Army embodied this spirit. The Nanniwan spirit is a specific manifestation of the national spirit under particular historical conditions, serving as a source of inspiration that drove countless people with lofty ideals to march forward and rescue the people from suffering. It played an irreplaceable important role and holds significant contemporary value. I took my family to experience the spirit of self-reliance and hard work that is the 'Nanniwan spirit.' Along the way, I taught my child about frugality, not wasting things, and living a thrifty lifestyle. At the end of the trip, we all enjoyed Nanniwan mushroom noodles. The whole family had a great time, and the trip was very low-cost. If you come to Yan'an, Nanniwan is a must-visit — it's truly the 'Jiangnan' of northern Shaanxi.
