Following the footsteps of the National Games, we also visit the 'Root of the Nation' Huangdi Mausoleum in Shaanxi. After today's tour, we bring you a recommendation guide for this attraction!
First, stay one night at Licheng Hotel. The facilities there are quite good, with a strong literary and cultural atmosphere. At night, they offer thoughtful warm milk, so you can rest well before setting off.
This attraction is located at Beiqiao Mountain in Huangling County, Shaanxi Province. It is said to be the place where the ancestor of the Chinese nation, the Yellow Emperor, ascended to heaven. The next day, we depart from Licheng Hotel in Xi'an. You can take a bus to Huangling from the Xi'an East Coach Station. This bus runs daily, but only departs at 7:00 AM. The journey takes about 3 hours, and the fare is 20 yuan. So it's recommended to get up early.
Upon arriving at the gate of Huangdi Mausoleum, you first need to buy tickets to enter. The ticket price is 19 yuan. Once you buy the ticket at the gate, you can go in!
After entering the scenic area, you can first visit Xuanyuan Temple. To get there, you must cross the Lower Xuanyuan Bridge. After crossing the bridge, you will reach Longwei Path (Dragon Tail Path). It is named so because legend says the Yellow Emperor ascended to heaven riding a dragon. This path has 95 steps, symbolizing the supreme status of the emperor.
To enter the temple, you need to swipe your ticket through the gate. After that, you can go inside to visit attractions such as the 'Cypress Planted by the Yellow Emperor' and the Yellow Emperor's footprints in the courtyard. The footprint is about one meter square, and it is said that seeing it brings good fortune.
After viewing the Yellow Emperor's footprints, you can also see the nearby Hangua Jia Bai (Armor-Hanging Cypress), where Emperor Wu of Han supposedly hung his armor while praying. This tree is also thousands of years old.
Further ahead is Chengxin Pavilion, which houses many calligraphic works by famous poets and scholars from various dynasties, including Chairman Mao's handwriting. They are very precious.
Continuing forward, you reach the Huangdi Mausoleum itself. The burial mound is very large, and there is a pavilion in front for worship. You can pay your respects there.
The Huangdi Mausoleum complex is arranged along a central axis. The northernmost building is the highest structure, Longyu Tower (Dragon Control Tower), which stands at an altitude of 994 meters. It is an excellent spot for climbing high and enjoying the view.
After visiting here, you can end the trip. If you feel tired, you can take an electric cart back to the entrance at a reasonable price.
