Self-drive Long March Route: Touring Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan 22
April 29, early departure from Dingxi, Gansu, heading to Yan'an.
From Dingxi to Yan'an, nearly 700 km, all highways (Qinglan Expressway). Around noon we arrived at Fuping, Shaanxi. There was a clear sign on the expressway indicating an exit to Zhiluo Town. We exited and drove 8 km to Zhiluo Town. The town is small but well-organized, with many shops along one street, but few people. The town has the Red Army Zhiluo Battle Memorial Hall, but it was closed that day, so we could only look from outside.
We had lunch at a small eatery in town, Shaanxi snack ròu jiā mó (meat in bun).
Before 3 PM we exited the expressway at Yan'an Wanhua Toll Station. Without booking a hotel, we went directly to the Wangjiaping Revolutionary Memorial Hall.
After visiting, we drove near the Yangjialing Revolutionary Site and found a small hotel to stay.
On the 30th after breakfast, we didn't drive; we took taxis and buses to visit Baota Mountain, Zaoyuan, and Yangjialing. On the bus we saw Qingliang Mountain. Before 11 AM we returned to the hotel, then drove directly out of Yan'an, ending the self-drive Long March trip.
Afterwards, on the way back to Shenyang, we took the opportunity to visit Hukou Waterfall and Tianjin.
