Journey to the Revolutionary Sacred Place, Recalling Thirteen Glorious Years
“In dreams I return to Yan’an many a time, my arms embracing the Pagoda Mountain.” These are lines that appeared in my elementary school textbook decades ago, and they are still fresh in my memory. Yan’an holds great significance for the Chinese Revolution and for New China. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China spent thirteen remarkable years in northern Shaanxi and Yan’an. During those thirteen years of tempering, the Communist Party of China grew from small to large, from weak to strong, rising from a low point to a peak. In July this year, I had the opportunity to study in Yan’an, and I came to appreciate more deeply the greatness and hardship of the older generation of revolutionaries who pioneered the revolutionary path with independence and self-reliance. From Fenghuang Mountain to Wangjiaping, from Chairman Mao to General Secretary Xi Jinping, generations of revolutionaries and builders have written magnificent chapters on this land.
