“Pomegranate Blossoms • Huanglong Temple Fair” – A Feast of Folk Culture Is About to Begin
In the height of summer, the Huanglong Scenic Area is about to usher in its annual cultural event—the Huanglong Temple Fair. This folk feast, blending the diverse cultures of Tibetan, Qiang, Hui, and Han, is not only a bearer of thousand-year cultural heritage but also a visual and spiritual journey of ethnic charm. As the fair is about to begin, let us unveil the mystery of the Huanglong Temple Fair and experience the timeless folk allure that transcends time and space.
Huanglong Temple, formerly known as Xueshan Temple, Bailu Temple, and Canglong Temple, was built in the Ming Dynasty and is a sacred site where Huanglong Zhenren (True Man Huanglong) attained immortality. Every year on the 15th day of the sixth lunar month, the anniversary of Huanglong Zhenren's ascension, the temple fair is held as scheduled. According to the Songpan County Gazetteer, since the Ming Dynasty, the Huanglong Temple Fair has been an annual cultural event in the Songpan region. Today, it is not only a cultural treasure of the Huanglong Scenic Area but also an important platform for promoting unity, exchange, and integration among all ethnic groups.
In the Jiachen year of the lunar calendar (2024), the Huanglong Temple Fair takes the theme “Pomegranate Blossoms • Huanglong Temple Fair,” symbolizing the unity of all ethnic groups in jointly promoting the inheritance, protection, and innovative integration of ethnic cultures. This year's fair is not just a showcase of culture but also a symbol of ethnic unity, deepening understanding and friendship among different ethnic groups through various activities.
During the fair, the rich folk culture of the Huanglong region will be brilliantly presented, including rituals to worship Huanglong Zhenren, prayer ceremonies, the inauguration of the Bell-Striking Pavilion, the launch ceremony of the bell-striking prayer event, the release ceremony of “Huanglong World Natural Heritage and Chinese Landscape Culture,” as well as spectacular dragon dances, guzheng performances, ethnic folk songs, and other special programs. These activities not only showcase the unique charm of each ethnic culture but also vividly embody the unity, mutual assistance, and harmonious coexistence of all ethnic groups.
The Huanglong Temple Fair will kick off from July 18 to 20 (the 13th to 15th of the lunar month). We sincerely invite friends from all ethnic groups to look forward to this feast of folk culture, to experience the historical depth of the ancient road, and to appreciate the unique ethnic charm of the Songpan region. This summer, let us stroll through the Huanglong Temple Fair and together paint a beautiful picture of ethnic unity.
