Marvels at Tianchi Mountain
Tianchi Mountain is located within the Wangmangzhai Forest Farm, a national forest park in the northwest of Song County, Luoyang City, Henan Province, and is a 4A scenic area.
There are many scenic spots in the area, but two are most worth seeing: one is the Heavenly Lake, and the other is the Flying Stone.
The Heavenly Lake sits high atop the mountain at an altitude of 1,630 meters, with a water area of 10,400 square meters and an average depth of 5.3 meters. It is the third largest alpine lake in China after Heaven Lake on Changbai Mountain and Tianchi Lake on Tianshan Mountain.
Climbing the steps to reach the Heavenly Lake requires some physical effort. Depending on each person's fitness, it takes between thirty minutes and an hour.
Along the way, you can see and hear the water flowing down from the Heavenly Lake. The most impressive sight is the Heavenly Lake Waterfall. Unfortunately, when I came, it hadn't rained recently, so the water flow was small, and the waterfall had shrunk to a thin stream. I could only imagine its magnificent plunge from the traces on the rock face.
When I finally reached the lake, panting heavily, the view suddenly opened up, revealing the beautiful mountain and water scenery. At that moment, I felt it was well worth the trip. After wiping my sweat and taking a rest, I breathed in the fresh air to my heart's content, feeling even more relaxed and joyful.
There are many metasequoia trees by the lake. In late autumn, when the leaves turn red, it should present another colorful landscape. If you don't have time during the National Day holiday, you might wait a while until the green trees turn red, and then come to see a different charm from what I saw.
The Flying Stone scenic area feels even more miraculous.
Although not as high as the Heavenly Lake, the Flying Stone stands firmly on a mountaintop over 1,500 meters above sea level. It is 26 meters high, 80 meters in circumference, and its contact area with the ground is less than 10 square meters. It tilts to one side, as if about to topple and slide into the deep ravine. I worry that a gust of mountain wind might blow it away, making it impossible to rise again.
Viewed from different angles, the Flying Stone takes on various shapes and appearances, such as a lotus flower, conch, mushroom cloud, fairy peach, golden toad, and so on. When I came, the lighting was not good, and my shooting position was also poor. Below, I borrow a great photo from a netizen to better appreciate the Flying Stone's wondrous charm.
Isn't it a bit breathtaking?
Walk under the Flying Stone with your head down, and you can see another kind of scenery.
The mountain below is called the Qunru Peak (Cluster of Breasts Peak)—doesn't it look like it?
Looking ahead, about 1,800 meters to the right-front, the mountain body naturally forms the characters '公' and '心' (meaning 'public' and 'heart'). It is said to be a stroke of genius from the spirit of Chairman Mao in heaven, and that mountain has been named Gongxin Peak (Public Heart Peak). In September, the trees on the mountain were still lush, and with backlighting, the character '心' on the lower right of the peak was not very clear, but the character '公' on the upper left was clearly visible. Borrowing another netizen's photo, you can compare and see.
Oh my, it's truly amazing!
But the wonder doesn't stop there. Let's move to another spot and look at the Flying Stone again—it's even more miraculous!
How can it be so lifelike? I was stunned and at a loss for words. Let's see how the scenic area describes it.
With such divine charm, the scenic area has turned this place into a red revolutionary education base.
This trip offered both natural marvels and spiritual enrichment. Are you tempted? Then come and visit the magical Tianchi Mountain yourself.
