Family Fun: Unlocking the Diverse Ways to Play at The Venetian Macao
I've always wanted to take a family trip, but various things kept postponing the plan. This time, I finally got to bring my mom along. As for my dear dad, unfortunately, he couldn't join us due to work commitments, but we gained a little princess to travel with us. I'd heard that Macao is a lot of fun, so without hesitation, I chose it. A three-generation trip was about to begin~
To make up for not being able to travel together, Dad volunteered to book the hotel. Choosing a hotel was a bit tricky because there are so many in Macao! Just within the Sands group, there are many styles, such as The Venetian Macao, The Parisian Macao, Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel, Holiday Inn Macao Cotai Central, St. Regis Macao Hotel, Conrad Macao Sands Cotai Central, etc. We finally booked the Tian Lun Le Suite at The Venetian Macao. According to Mom, the name is auspicious—'Tian Lun Le' means enjoying family happiness together! Maybe that's the idea, hahaha~
Right outside the airport, we saw the hotel's complimentary shuttle bus. This service is very considerate, saving guests the trouble of finding their way to the hotel and taking into account the inconvenience of traveling with the elderly and children.
As the name suggests, the Venetian Macao is designed after the water city of Venice. From the outside, it looks like a palace—extremely luxurious. This feeling is even stronger when entering the lobby. A golden armillary sphere sits in the center of the lobby, carved with Western figures, and above is a dome similar to a cathedral, painted with scenes from the European Renaissance—some pictures you might have seen in history books. The hotel gives off not only a luxurious vintage vibe but also a strong European atmosphere. It's also a filming location for many blockbusters like 'The Man from Macau,' 'Now You See Me,' 'Boys Over Flowers'... all shot here, as such a luxurious place meets the need for opulent settings in films.
After checking in, a staff member led us to the Tian Lun Le Suite. The room has a semi-open design, separating the parents' rest area from the children's rest area—very thoughtful. The room contains one large bed and one bunk bed, so we don't have to squeeze with the kids at night. However, if the child is very young, it's still recommended to sleep with the adults.
The children's rest area is also well-equipped. In the corner, there's a small tent for kids to play in; it's fine for an afternoon nap, but not recommended for overnight sleep. Some game consoles are provided so kids and parents can play games together, enhancing their bond. There are also small tables and chairs suitable for children. In short, the entire room radiates a happy and harmonious atmosphere.
The bathroom is spacious, with a makeup mirror at each sink, so no one has to wait in the morning. The shower and bathtub are separate, allowing you to choose—very nice design~
On the fifth floor, there are four outdoor pools, with loungers and towels provided. You can also rent a cabana by the pool. If you want to enjoy time with family without being disturbed by the poolside, you can book it at check-in or in advance.
I took our little princess to the larger main pool to play in the water. If it's just adults wanting some private space, there's also an adult-only Green Oasis Pool and Jacuzzi. There's also my favorite hydrotherapy pool and spa. In my opinion, getting a spa is one of life's greatest pleasures—the long-standing tension disappears, and the whole body relaxes. Just remember to hydrate afterward~
The Shoppes at The Venetian is a landmark in Macao. I've never seen a hotel on the mainland with both a huge shopping center and winding canals. The sky in the shopping center is computer-controlled, changing randomly into blue skies with white clouds or sunset hues. So here, you only see either daytime or dusk—I wonder if it can turn into a starry night sky.
The gondola rides are another highlight of the shopping center. Sitting in an intricately crafted boat, enjoying the beautiful scenery, with European-style buildings on both sides, the pointed gondola slowly glides along the canal. Watching pedestrians on the shore, it really feels like being in Venice. The gondolier's Chinese was excellent too; he sang a song 'The Moon Represents My Heart.' The male voice with a European operatic resonance sounded quite unique. Sitting on the gently swaying gondola, listening to that heart-melting song—nice~ I also tossed a coin into the canal to make a wish. I thought only Chinese did that, but the gondolier said Italians also toss coins to make wishes. He also said the sky dome's blue and white clouds are exactly like those in Venice, and he shared stories of his life in Venice... Time flew by, and I hadn't heard enough songs and stories. Next time, I'll definitely take another gondola ride—this experience was totally worth it!
I remember one episode of 'Running Man' was filmed on this canal, with members appearing slowly on gondolas. It felt amazing—I never imagined I'd one day visit the same spot~
While looking for a restroom in the shopping center, I saw Pandora. The store isn't very big, but the selection is quite diverse, priced from a few hundred patacas. The designs are mostly delicate and cute—very pretty.
My best friend has always wanted a Pandora bracelet, and her birthday is coming up, so I bought one as a gift. Honestly, there were so many styles that I was dazzled—I finally chose a bracelet after a long time. I wonder if she'll scream with joy when she gets it. Can't wait~
I heard that mainland gold is 24k (pure gold), while Macao gold is 999.9 fine, and the gold price here is cheaper than on the mainland. Then I saw a Chow Tai Fook store, so we went in to buy a piece of jewelry for Mom. The store is quite spacious, nicely decorated, and feels comfortable. The staff were very friendly and enthusiastic, patiently answering questions without turning cold even if you don't buy anything. I took a long time choosing a bracelet for Mom.
Because the prices were reasonable, I also looked at some bracelets inside—lots of styles—and ended up buying a simple bracelet for my sister.
Coloane can be considered the back garden of Macao, like an isolated small fishing village, without the hustle and bustle of nightlife, only leisurely tranquility. Coloane is not very large; you can see macaron-colored buildings everywhere. For tourists, it's like a natural photo studio where you can take pictures freely. Mom and I took many solo shots and also asked passersby to take group photos—every picture turned out beautiful.
With the serene environment and colorful houses, the whole place exudes a lazy vibe, making you lose track of time. On the way back, Mom said the environment here is really nice and comfortable, and it wouldn't be bad to live here forever.
We also saw a scene I remembered from a Korean drama. I can't recall the name, but the main characters seemed to be called Shin and Chae-gyeong; it was the ending scene—very beautiful!
I used to think my mom and I had few common interests, but this trip made me realize how ridiculous that thought was. It was simply because I hadn't been willing to communicate with her. Another discovery is that Mom is really good at posing—every photo turned out great. When I sent them to Dad, he regretted not coming with us. Next time, I definitely want to bring both parents along for a trip.
