Step into Macau and Experience a Colorful Life
After the Spring Festival, visiting relatives made me feel like a little rich lady, pockets heavy with red envelopes—hehe. This is my zodiac year, and a few things have happened that make me think the superstition about zodiac year bad luck is something you’d better believe than dismiss. Following hometown tradition, my dear mom had long ago prepared red long johns for my zodiac year. But me, I trust more in 'spending money to ward off bad luck,' so I took my lucky money and went shopping in Macau with my bestie! To save budget, we spent a lot of time hunting for the right hotel. Heaven rewards the persistent, and finally we discovered accommodation deals at Sands Macau's properties: The Venetian Macao, The Parisian Macao, Conrad Macao, Sheraton Grand Macao, The St. Regis Macao and more. Call me the money-saving whiz, oh yeah.
We’d already booked our room online in advance, so we were in no hurry to check in—the room wasn’t going anywhere. It felt better to first enjoy the hotel’s artificial lake scenery. The lake is huge, and you can capture reflections of the hotel buildings on the water. Apart from tourists drawn by reputation, plenty of Macau locals were strolling by the lake, painting a picture of peaceful idyll.
After dawdling for a while, we finally came to check in. The front desk staff were professional and swift, and we didn’t have to carry our luggage upstairs—there were dedicated staff to help.
This is the Luxury Bella Suite we booked with a 30% discount—truly a gem! By the way, the 30% off is only for stays of two consecutive nights or more. For those planning a Macau day trip, if you book on the official website at least two days in advance, you can also enjoy a 20% discount.
The floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room are superb, with excellent shading curtains. Draw them open and sunlight floods in—the window side makes a perfect photo spot. Quick, tag the person you want to travel with and make them snap a pic! The indoor Wi-Fi is fast, so no problem grouping up with friends for a Honor of Kings session!
The bathroom was spotlessly clean and quite spacious.
After a quick unpack, we set off on our first day of exploring shops. From indoors to the Grand Canal Shoppes square, it took a lot of time. Blame it on The Venetian being so huge, filled with art and décor worth savoring. My friend and I wandered and snapped photos all the way.
Known as the 'Hermès' of cakes—Lady M is a cake brand from New York. Normally I can't bear to splurge on it. But earning money is meant for a better life, and since we’re traveling, spending where it counts is worthwhile!
The Macau-exclusive Coconut Mille Crêpes with ice cream is a collaboration with Lai Kei, and the ice cream is coconut-flavored too. The crêpes are delicate with a light coconut aroma, and the ice cream is the icing on the cake.
They also have many drinks; the English Rose Fresh Milk Tea appealed to me most with its looks, making gorgeous photos! The milk tea has a delicate fragrance and helps cut through the sweetness of the cake.
A buy-one-get-one-free sale at Skechers, and yet not many people? Are they out of the loop? Hurry and stock up! I much prefer comfy sneakers over heels, especially for commuting, shopping, and travel—sneakers protect your ankles.
The shop has a wide variety, with some styles perfect for running. Recalling how my parents love morning exercises, I picked out two suitable pairs for them. As their daughter, of course I know their shoe sizes!
Skechers’ D’Lites (chunky sneakers) really charm the young crowd—trendy design, stylish colors, and a built-in height boost.
The creamy white chunky sneakers I tried on have already come home with me! When you spot something you love, grab it fast and decisively.
Every year, the Chinese New Year goodies at home are the same few kinds—to be honest, I'm tired of them. Macau has lots of local souvenir shops, and in the Grand Canal Shoppes there’s a Koi Kei Bakery, with some bestsellers on a buy-one-get-one-free offer!
Bringing back almond cakes, almond crisps, and peanut brittle for my parents to try something new. As a meat lover, I naturally bought extra pork jerky and dried meat snacks—perfect for a midnight bite when hunger strikes~
Macau has so many places worth visiting that we had to make full use of our post-dinner time. I accompanied a friend in search of perfume to the Four Seasons (Shops), a mall that’s anything but ordinary, gathering all sorts of luxury brands. Gucci, Chanel, Prada... too many to count on both hands!
The mall was quieter, possibly because it was late, giving a serene shopping feel. My friend had long wanted to buy Penhaligon's Portraits collection scents; she was influenced by someone else, and now she’s influenced me too, hahaha.
Penhaligon's is a century-old British royal warrant perfume brand, so you can imagine its prestige. Their Portraits series includes many characters—stag, cheetah, fox, hound, peacock, lion and more, each with a unique story behind the scent.
Every fragrance is one of a kind; the scent that suits you best will match your overall aura. Tagging along, I picked up useful tips, like how to apply perfume correctly, and that the amount depends on the character of the scent. The pump spray design makes it easy to use and carry around.
DFS at the Four Seasons is a must-visit mega store, often running promotions and discounts, especially during year-end and Chinese New Year, when the offers are even bigger! The store’s decor is grand and beautiful, goods tidily arranged on various shelves and counters, a pleasure to behold.
The brands at DFS are plentiful and high quality, with some big-name skincare products very popular. Shopping here not only gives you a favorable exchange rate but also greater product quality assurance!
The sales assistants are extremely polite; when you say thank you, they smile and reply, 'You're welcome!' Also, if you’re unsure what suits you, ask the beauty consultant for recommendations—they have solid knowledge in skincare and makeup.
To enjoy a romantic French dinner, we made a point of visiting the Parisian French Restaurant on the third floor of The Parisian. Note that the restaurant is closed all day on Tuesdays, so don’t get the timing wrong.
An artsy French restaurant with elegant, refined decor—many details have a picturesque quality, great for both photos and videos.
Dining can be a major expense when traveling in Macau. But if you plan ahead and research which restaurants offer good value, you can eat well and eat full! With excellent service and a monthly menu change, the Parisian French Restaurant has earned its great reputation through solid delivery.
The freshly baked baguette still warm, crusty on the outside, paired with butter—each bite is increasingly fragrant.
Escargots à la bourguignonne, a traditional French dish, has a unique texture. The snails are imported from France and very fresh. The black truffle foie gras is also great—crispy outside, tender inside, with the thickness of the foie gras clearly visible, genuine ingredients all.
Needless to say about the art of French plating—every dish deserves a photo before eating, or it would be a shame. This flambéed prawns dish was sweet and sour, with fresh, firm shrimp. The mussels cooked with shallots, cream, and white wine were plump and tender, a great seafood dish.
The sirloin steak, ordered rare, revealed beautiful meat texture when cut.
Sweet tooths can try the passion fruit chocolate choux pastry and the snow meringue. The snow meringue is beautifully shaped, with a creamy almond fragrance and tastes sweet.
The newly upgraded Sands Londoner Hotel is not fully completed yet, but that doesn’t stop visitors from exploring its interior and going on a shopping spree at Londoner Court! Photography enthusiasts now have another free spot for great shots, and a visit to Macau really rewards you richly.
Shops 2227 to 2229 on the 2nd floor of Londoner Court are Noble Mart, a 24-hour convenience store with plenty of imported snacks, especially Japanese brands. We bought some to take back to the hotel room, so if we couldn’t wake up for breakfast, we could fill our stomachs.
Various drinks, jellies, chips, candies—many imported products we’d never tried before, and both of us feared picking a dud, so choosing each item took forever.
Instant noodles were also abundant; we bought two packs of spicy chicken noodles for a late-night snack—so indulgent, hahaha. The hotel bottled water ran out, and if my friend hadn’t reminded me, I would have forgotten to buy water, totally lost in the world of snacks.
Every time I travel, I bring back gifts for my parents. When I saw the foreign liquor in the convenience store, my first thought was of my dad—so I had to get a bottle for this drink lover. Fine liquor is good, but don’t overindulge.
Rua do Cunha is a famous characteristic commercial street in Macau, very close to our hotel, The Venetian. We came here in search of local delicacies. Macau is small but diverse, and around Rua do Cunha you can feel the historical atmosphere of the old district and the local culture and customs.
Let me introduce a few specialty eats—be sure to try them. First is Mok Yi Kei’s durian ice cream; the owner is very nice and chatty.
Second is Cheung Chau Mochi, with various fruit flavors and generous fruit fillings. As a durian lover, I naturally bought a durian mochi to taste—delicious!
Century Coffee is the third foodie spot I recommend; their signature items are pork chop buns and charcoal-grilled coffee. The charcoal claypot coffee has a rich, smoky aroma. The corned beef thick egg toast is filling, with incredibly tender egg and a stunning appearance.
Since the pandemic began, these have been my most carefree and happiest days. I really felt reluctant to leave. Sitting on the hotel bus, my mood was completely different from the first day in Macau. Day one was anticipation and joy; leaving was reluctance and wistfulness. After experiencing Macau's colorful life, I tell myself: every day from now on must be fulfilling and joyful! To meet Macau again soon, I’ll work hard and make good money!
