No Quarantine Required for Travel to and from Macau! Share a Detailed Entry Procedure to Help You Start a Worry-Free Macau Trip!
Have you been longing for an outbound trip? Have you been discouraged by the high prices of cosmetics in shopping malls? Let me share some great news: now you no longer need to quarantine when traveling to and from Macau. Are you tempted?
Recently, many friends around me have gone to Macau one after another. It turns out that now you don't need to quarantine again when traveling to Macau. Also, it's currently the low season for tourism in Macau, so most hotels offer very favorable prices, and there are many specials at duty-free shops. These are certainly important factors attracting people to go. So, if you also want to take a free and easy trip to Macau, what issues do you need to pay attention to?
1. About applying for the endorsement
Those who have been to Hong Kong or Macau know that it used to be quite convenient to get an endorsement. However, the current process and procedures require an appointment in advance for processing, and the review period for the endorsement has become 7 working days. So if you plan to go to Macau, remember to get your endorsement ready in advance before booking your flight tickets, because the cost for a once-in-3-months and a once-in-1-year endorsement is the same. It is recommended to apply for the once-in-1-year one, as it is more practical.
2. About nucleic acid testing
Although no additional quarantine is required for traveling to and from Macau at present, you still need to present a negative nucleic acid test report valid within 7 days with a stamp. If the test report date is too early and the return date exceeds the 7-day validity, you will need to get a new negative nucleic acid test report in Macau before returning. Therefore, it is recommended to choose a designated local hospital to get the nucleic acid test one day in advance.
3. About internet
Without mobile data, modern people find it extremely difficult to get around, even the basic health code can be hard to manage. However, the Wi-Fi signals at Macau airport or hotels are very good, and logging in is quite convenient, mostly automatic. The airport Wi-Fi even requires no confirmation. So even if you haven't activated international roaming or purchased a data package, you don't need to worry too much. You can buy a local SIM card at the airport or activate related services at your hotel.
So, can you easily set off with just an endorsement and a negative nucleic acid test report valid within 7 days? I believe that outbound travel might be a bit unfamiliar for most of you now, so let me share my recent personal trip to Macau to help you go through the process more smoothly.
At the check-in counter at the airport, you need to present the original copy of your Macau and Hong Kong travel permit with a valid endorsement, a stamped negative nucleic acid test report valid within 7 days, and your Macau Health Code (the content is similar to the domestic health code, with additional fields for Macau residential address or hotel, and emergency contact and phone number).
After checking in your luggage, before entering the international, Hong Kong, and Macau departure area, you also need to fill out a "Health Declaration for Entry/Exit Personnel" (the content is similar to the health code, with additional fields for emergency contact and phone number). After filling it out, present it to the staff, and then you can enter customs.
Customs officers will check your flight ticket, the nucleic acid test report valid within 7 days, and the Macau and Hong Kong travel permit. Then you can enter the long-missed domestic Sunrise Duty Free shop. However, the reality is that the stock at Sunrise Duty Free is severely insufficient, many items you want to buy are often out of stock, and cigarettes cannot be bought directly (you are allowed to bring up to 19 cigarettes into Macau, roughly equivalent to one pack). So it is recommended that unless it is a necessity in stock, you go to Macau to buy it, as most cosmetics and clothing are available at local duty-free shops and shopping malls.
After the plane arrives in Macau, there will be clear signs prompting you to fill out and present your Macau Health Code. If you forgot to fill it out before departure or your QR code expired, don't worry: the Wi-Fi signal inside the airport is very good, and you can easily fill out the Macau Health Code even without international roaming.
If you have a stamped negative nucleic acid test report from a designated domestic hospital valid within 7 days, you can go through the inspection counter on the left. If you have a test report from other qualified medical institutions, printed by yourself, you need to go through the inspection counter on the right. Actually, there is not much difference between the two, the review process is simple and fast.
The inspection officer will verify your Macau and Hong Kong travel permit, the stamped negative nucleic acid test report valid within 7 days, and your Macau Health Code valid for the day (screenshots are not accepted). Then they will stamp your nucleic acid test report with a "Port Health and Quarantine Approved" seal.
Finally, you can collect a simple entry declaration form (a small square piece of paper) from customs and then proceed to the baggage carousel to collect your luggage. From entry to inspection to leaving, it takes about 10-15 minutes. The entire procedure is quite simple and easy, and the staff are very enthusiastic and patient.
After collecting your luggage, you can take the pre-booked hotel shuttle or taxi from the exit to your booked hotel. Remember to keep your entry declaration form (the small square piece of paper from customs), nucleic acid test report, and the original Macau and Hong Kong travel permit, as they may be required when checking into the hotel or entering shopping malls and scenic spots.
I particularly recommend the Wynn Palace Hotel in Macau, which is very close to the airport. The price is currently very affordable. The hotel is not only new but also has spacious rooms with a broad view. Coupled with the hotel's own music fountain and sightseeing cable car, it is quite eye-catching.
I hope the above suggestions can help you quickly and effectively start your first outbound trip of the new year and enjoy Macau's unique shopping and dining experiences. If you have any other questions or the latest tips about the process and regulations, please leave a comment to share. Thank you.
