A Free-Spirited and Romantic Trip to Macao – Even More Spectacular Than I Imagined!
During travel, you always encounter a variety of people and experiences, unlock tourist spots, snap photos of beautiful scenery, and taste local snacks from different places—it feels like you own the whole world. The feelings from each trip are also very different. It’s with this sense of the unknown that every journey feels unique. This time, I set my destination to Macao. I’d heard from friends that Macao is definitely worth visiting, a place where you can eat, drink, and stroll without any worries. Even without any plans, you can still feel the city’s charm. I packed lightly, booked a flight, and set off eagerly.
After leaving the airport, I took the free shuttle bus to the hotel. During the ten-minute ride, I took lots of photos and felt completely free and relaxed. Before the trip, I spent a long time choosing a hotel. I always place great importance on hotel quality because a good hotel not only ensures safety but also helps you sleep well, making the trip less tiring. We had planned to choose from The Venetian Macao, The Parisian Macao, The Londoner Macao, Sheraton, and St. Regis. Later, I saw many netizens recommending The Venetian Macao online, so I booked it in advance on the official website. To my surprise, The Venetian Macao was truly amazing—attentive service, solid facilities, and a luxurious environment. Everything won me over. Especially its guest rooms, which are super spacious and luxurious, giving me the comfort of staying at home.
Stepping off the bus, I arrived at The Venetian Macao. The air was so fresh. The hotel’s exterior is also very beautiful, with a distinctive Western architectural style. Strolling around The Venetian Macao, the natural scenery and cultural architecture blend perfectly, refreshing the mind. There’s also a long river next to it, creating a genuine water city atmosphere, with gentle streams and rippling water.
The gilded lettering of The Venetian Macao shone even brighter under the sunlight. Pushing open the hotel doors, the whole world turned golden. From the lighting to the sculptures and murals, everything wrapped the lobby in a golden glow. The bright chandelier also transported you into this romantic realm. If you have time to stroll around, you’ll notice the lobby’s murals are quite stylish—beyond beauty, they let you feel cultural diversity.
Checking in was very convenient. If you have special room requests, you can ask the staff, and they’ll do their best to accommodate you. The deluxe suite I booked was really nice. Opening the door, the elegant blue tones made me feel like I was in the water city of Venice. The simple combination of white and light blue was very warm. The sunken living room design made the space feel larger and more layered. The bed was very comfortable, and the soft lamplight was exactly the vibe I like. The sofa was long enough—if you want to enjoy the night view in the evening, you can lie on the sofa with a glass of red wine, which is a truly special treat.
The bathroom style was quite different from the living room. Since the space isn’t very large and considering poor visibility at night, the entire bathroom had a cool, elegant palace style. The marble countertop was smooth and bright, and the wall sconces were retro-styled, creating a nice vibe. There’s a bathtub and a shower—soaking in a warm milk bath was very nice. The bathroom amenities were great: the bathrobe was soft, and the toiletries weren’t cheap. Overall, it felt very upscale.
The hotel was comfortable, and there are plenty of nearby shopping centers: The Parisian Shopping Centre, The Grand Canal Shoppes, and Sands Plaza—all can be explored freely. Not only are there numerous brands, but the scenery is also beautiful. For instance, The Grand Canal Shoppes on the second and third floors have a canal running through them, with a blue artificial sky that lifts your mood whenever you look up. If you have time, you can try a gondola ride, drifting along the canal as if you’ve truly been transported to Italy. It also has over 300 shops with a complete range of products, so you can shop to your heart’s content—clothes, shoes, bags, everything. Since my energy was limited, I mainly explored the resort area in the new district this time. Next time I come, I’ll definitely check out The Londoner Macao; I’ve heard it’s incredibly luxurious, and the photos make it look grand and opulent.
In my mind, the only brand that can rival Jo Malone is probably this one. Their hand wash, hand cream, and my favorite soaps are all incredibly good. Their products are updated very quickly, each with many different scents so you can pick one that suits you. After use, your skin becomes more moisturized and smooth—very effective. Importantly, such great products are not even expensive. In Macao, they had a buy-two-get-one-free deal, practically a bargain. The sales service was also excellent and patient, helping you find suitable products based on your preferences. I almost forgot to mention, their face masks are also great—fresh masks that are very hydrating, perfect for seasonal changes. If you enjoy baths, their bath bombs are a must-have; they smell wonderful and produce lots of bubbles.
If you like stylish and comfortable sportswear, you definitely shouldn’t miss this brand. I’ve been wearing their clothes since I graduated. The fabric is very comfortable, sweat-absorbent and form-fitting in summer; wearing it for a run doesn’t feel too casual, and the designs are quite unique. Lululemon in Macao is really friendly—with the exchange rate and discounts, a jacket was about 100 yuan cheaper than in the mainland, and it was even a new arrival. The store is large and there were many people trying on clothes. Fortunately, there were enough fitting rooms, or else it would have taken forever. They also had some items at 50% off; although they were previous styles, the sizes were complete. Stocking up on a few more close-fitting pieces felt even better than a steal. I initially planned to just browse quickly, but ended up spending two hours. When I walked out, my hands were full, but I felt so happy.
Not only are the hats good-looking, but their clothes are also quite nice. However, the hats are so famous that whenever I’m in a city, I have to pop in to see if there are new styles. Their Macao store is really large, and the crowd is huge—most people, like me, come for the hats. Although there was a 30% discount on some items, it cruelly didn’t include hats. It seems the hat colors are seasonal: fresh colors for summer, deeper tones for autumn. The fabric and design are impeccable, easy to match with any outfit. Wearing one makes you feel cool and stylish. Although the clothes lean casual, they also incorporate trendy elements, so a full outfit looks pretty good. I picked up two discounted clothing items and couldn’t resist buying two new-season hats—luckily, they weren’t expensive.
I think few women don't love perfume. After graduating, I've become even more obsessed with fragrances. I love Jo Malone perfumes not only because they smell good, but also their packaging strikes me as both beautiful and stylish. I use them myself and sometimes buy tea-scented ones for my husband; they're really suitable for men. This Macao store has perfumes, shower gels, and bath products. The shop is as spacious as always, and they had a promotion: three items at 12% off. Mainland stores rarely have such deals, and they also supported Alipay discount stacking, so I got a solid 20% off. I have to praise the shopping guide here—handsome and attentive. I've already held back a lot, but I must give credit!
The store display is also super attractive; I felt like I wanted to buy every scent!
Now that we've unlocked the shops, let's talk about attractions. After all, both shopping and sightseeing can't be missed. Secretly tell you, the hotel also has a teamLab SuperNature exhibition, one of the world's top ten must-see exhibitions, blending technology and art to let you feel immersive charm. Wherever you stand in the exhibition, you'll feel completely surrounded by beauty—a bizarre and fantastical world where technology and nature meet. It's great for photos, very artistic. Make sure your phone is fully charged before you go, or you might run out of battery! What's great is that the hotel gave us exhibition tickets, so thoughtful. Come with me and take a look!
Entering a world of flowers, absolutely breathtaking!
Last but not least, I must tell you that there are many attractions around the hotel, like the Eiffel Tower, The Parisian Garden, Big Ben, and the Crystal Palace. In the old town, there's Rua do Cunha, Taipa Houses-Museum, A-Ma Temple, and Erlonghou Park—all highly recommended by netizens. Every place is worth exploring, especially in May when the weather is perfect for visiting Macao: sunny but not too hot, and you can take stunning photos without any filters. Also, the attractions aren't far apart. For those a bit farther, you can take a bus to the terminal and transfer to reach the Ruins of St. Paul's in just 40 minutes. Near the ruins, there's also Senado Square and Fortaleza do Monte, both very meaningful.
Mint-green Portuguese villas with white trim are uniquely charming and photogenic. This is the most refreshingly simple spot in Macao, where you can snap blockbuster photos in no time. These were among the first residences built by the Portuguese in Macao and are preserved to this day. Although the area is reclaimed land, a wetland park has been preserved, which is especially cool in summer, with ponds full of lotus flowers that are a delight to behold. The historic ambiance of Taipa Houses-Museum, with its elegant color scheme and tranquil environment, stands out as a peaceful oasis in bustling Macao—one of the city's eight scenic spots. The surrounding alleyways are also full of character, and seeing them at night offers a different charm.
Original Portuguese style, brimming with charm~
And the view outside is just as stunning!
In the southern downtown area of Taipa, from the intersection of Rua Direita Carlos Eugénio and Rua Correia da Silva all the way to the Fire Department Square, it's a very long street filled with all kinds of Macao delicacies and Portuguese scenery. You can eat and enjoy the views at the same time; you'd never get bored visiting daily. Koi Kei's egg tarts are superb—great quality at low prices—and Tai Lei Loi Kei's milk tea will absolutely put you in a good mood.
My brief trip to Macao ends here. Although I feel like there are still many places I haven't visited, I have to go back to face my life and work, working hard for the next journey. I must say, Macao is a city full of charm everywhere. Whether it's the scenery or the views, they can all bring you good vibes. If you also want a happy trip, why not consider Macao!
