Thought I’d Landed in London? It’s Actually Macau’s New British-Style Hotel
There’s been no shortage of big news from Macau this year. Besides reopening to mainland tourists early in the pandemic thanks to its stellar containment measures, Macau also saw an event quite important for visitors: The Londoner Hotel officially opened in February, the city’s first British-themed luxury hotel. If you’ve been to Macau before, you probably know Sands’ Venetian Macao, The Parisian Macao, Conrad Macao, Sheraton Grand Macao, and The St. Regis Macao. This hotel is also under the Sands umbrella.
This Macau trip might just be the best decision I’ve made all year, easily ranking among my top three travel experiences. Want to know just how “extra” a hotel can be? Come take a look at The Londoner Hotel. From the church-style façade, the 90-meter-tall Big Ben replica, to the crystal palace interior, it feels like they’ve lifted a piece of Britain right out of the map. As a first-timer overwhelmed by British charm, I found it totally addictive – no amount of wandering inside was enough.
The hotel’s decor goes full-on British, with a real European street vibe.
The Londoner Hotel also has quite the figurehead as its ambassador: football icon David Beckham. He not only endorses the hotel but was involved in designing the top-floor suites – no wonder the taste is impeccable. We booked a Louis Suite, and everything from the inside out felt brand new. At 75 square meters, it’s incredibly spacious, and the separate living room feels like a high-end reception lounge. The leather sofas are so plush that they look expensive – and honestly, they are. Haha.
The room is packed with high-tech amenities: an OTO foot massager, air purifier, coffee machine, automated bathtub, and more. Internet addicts needn’t worry about connectivity – there’s 24-hour Wi-Fi, fast enough to fly. Even the pillows come in four types: soft, firm, hypoallergenic, and sleep-enhancing, so there’s zero chance of a restless night in an unfamiliar bed.
Now that we’ve covered the stay, let’s talk food. First up: breakfast. At The Residence, breakfast runs until 1pm – easily the longest breakfast window I’ve ever seen. Beyond a lavish buffet, the restaurant also offers afternoon tea and nighttime cocktails. Better yet, it’s an exclusive private club for hotel guests only – no outsiders allowed.
Some rooms inside are designed with a sleek business feel, more lavish than any boardroom I’ve seen.
The breakfast spread is rich, with both Chinese and Western options, diverse flavors, and well-balanced nutrition. The setting is quiet, and staff will swap out plates for you. One meal made me feel like royalty.
The wonton noodle soup was so invigorating it chased away every ounce of sleepiness. Huge thanks to The Londoner Hotel for letting us late-risers still enjoy such a sumptuous breakfast!
The friend who traveled with me is quite the foodie. We divided tasks beforehand: she hunted for restaurants and street eats, while I mapped out routes and scoured malls for deals. Our first official food stop in Macau was Churchill’s, right in the ground-floor lobby of The Londoner Hotel – a newly opened British restaurant.
The moment I stepped in, the ambiance felt familiar. The posh, understated British aesthetic with black-and-gold accents felt just like our suite. My friend joked, “Maybe this is just the signature British style – I love it!”
What’s joy without meat? Churchill’s menu looked mouthwatering, with plenty of choices, so we ordered several meaty dishes. The signature British roast beef comes with a little bowl of accompaniments – four choices available. Portions were just right for one, and the beef flavor was spot-on. We also had a steak sandwich and ribeye steak. Beef galore!
A black truffle, egg, and chia seed flatbread looked a bit like pizza, but thinner and crispier, with an intoxicating truffle aroma that made you want to dive right in. Dessert came shaped like a piggy bank – incredibly lifelike.
The restaurant’s Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea is available only on Saturdays and Sundays. I heard seats were fully booked during the May Day holiday, so if you’re eyeing popular treats, be sure to book early. It took the chef ages to assemble this tea set at our table, handling everything with utmost care. Delicate tableware paired with adorable desserts left me momentarily frozen – until I saw my friend already snapping away. I quickly grabbed my camera, hunting for angles, only to realize everything looked gorgeous no matter how I shot it.
After a makeover, Londoner Court shopping mall has transformed into Macau’s most aristocratic British-style shopping destination. Here, you can shop and enjoy stunning views at the same time! The mall is dotted with Instagram-famous spots: a mini Big Ben; oversized British tea cups bursting with color that make photos pop; and charming, retro streets with elegant European-style lamp posts.
The mall is huge, with far too many shops to finish in one go. At Shop 1015 on the first floor, Chow Tai Fook had a discount and trade-in offer: 20% off craftsmanship fees on any solid gold purchase, plus the chance to buy a selected piece of jewelry at a special “trade-in price.”
So many collaborative diamond collections! The Disney Princess series is so girly that one extra glance had me fighting the urge to take them all home. Beyond diamonds, Chow Tai Fook’s gemstones and gold jewelry are just as irresistible. See anything you like? Before the promotion ends, grab your savings and head over!
BOY LONDON clothing is bold and empowering – on guys it oozes masculinity, on girls it gives off a candid, free-spirited vibe. Located at Shop 2240 on the second floor of Londoner Court, this store never misses a promotion: 30% off selected regular-priced items, and a free gift with any net spend of MOP 2,500 or more.
There are plenty of attractions near The Londoner Hotel. For instance, the Grand Canal Shoppes is an indoor, water-bound shopping mall perfect for photos and browsing. You get to soak in gorgeous views while shopping till you drop. The streetscapes are beautiful, and occasionally you’ll hear enchanting songs drifting over from the canal.
The gondola ride, lasting just over 20 minutes, left me wanting more. You can choose the route, and the gondolier is happy to help with photos if you ask.
If you’re a romantic, artsy soul, you must visit the teamLab SuperNature exhibition. Also inside The Venetian Macao, it’s one of the world’s top ten must-see exhibitions. Tickets are affordable, opening hours are generous, and you can book in advance on the official site or Ctrip – maybe even snag a deal.
The exhibition is vast, and you never know what the next room will bring: an ocean world, a forest realm, or a dazzling dimension woven from light. Every themed zone is incredibly photogenic – no photography skills needed, because every shot turns out amazing!
This sea of flowers is titled:
My dang shopping impulse fully awakened the moment I arrived in Macau, and it’s all because the malls here are not only massive but also packed with deals. After tiring out my wallet at Londoner Court and Grand Canal Shoppes, it was time for Le Boulevard at The Parisian. This mall features mainly designer boutiques and multi-brand stores, making it a fascinating place to browse.
APM is a luxurious jewelry brand from Monaco. Its designs blend modern and classic, pairing effortlessly with minimalist outfits for an intellectual, elegant look. Their diamond jewelry is so exquisite, it left me utterly spellbound.
The starry collection of small diamond bangle, necklace, and ring makes a complete set. I finally treated myself to the starry ear cuff, and thanks to the exchange rate, it was cheaper than buying on the mainland. This earring comes in silver, rose gold, and black; I found the gold shade brighter, so I went with that.
Yating Duty Free on the third floor of The Parisian has always been a hot spot, with countless skincare brands I could barely keep track of. It wasn’t crowded either, so I could shop in peace, find what I wanted, and all at decent prices. Several friends knew I was in Macau and specifically asked me to pick up skincare and makeup from the duty-free store for them.
I’d long heard of the Four Seasons Shoppes, and after strolling through, I found the interior understated but packed with one prestigious luxury brand after another. My friend and I laughed: “At Four Seasons Shoppes, it’s all about the experience – haha.”
At Shops 1209–1211, M Level, a new brand boutique called RAINBOW has opened, featuring over forty trendy fashion labels and offering a one-stop comprehensive service. This new store is huge, very spacious, and uncrowded – I could even hear my own footsteps inside.
On the second floor, Shop 2800, LOEWE launched its new Anagram Jacquard collection. Worth checking out. Service here was great – they’ll answer any questions. Beyond bags, I thought their clothing was quite nice too, and you can try pieces on.
What kind of bag do you like? For me, color and style can be simple. The main thing is comfort and capacity. I’m someone who always carries a bunch of small items, so I really care about how much a bag can hold.
Do you ever get that “post-vacation syndrome”? Ever since coming back from Macau, I keep reliving so many moments – the food, the sights, random strangers I met – and I can’t shake the longing to go back. My friend says I had way too much fun in Macau and just don’t want to return to the grind. Haha. To earn another trip to Macau, I’d better keep working hard! For you with spare cash and time, while hotel stays and shopping promotions are still going strong, better make your plans now!
