On the 22nd Anniversary of Macau's Return, I Made a Special Trip to the Macau Museum
Many may have forgotten,
but it has been exactly 22 years since Macau returned
to the embrace of the motherland.
Choosing to visit Macau on this day,
the Macau Museum,
as a comprehensive venue encompassing all of Macau's culture and art,
was an absolute must.
It is located on the Monte Fort,
the earliest foothold of the Portuguese
and the heart of the city.
The Macau Museum has three floors,
with the first two floors at ground level of the fort
and the third floor above it,
which perfectly reflects the three aspects of Macau's life.
Exhibition of Primitive Civilizations
This part introduces Macau's origins and history.
You can see cultural relics from Macau's prehistoric period,
as well as the commercial activities of the Portuguese trading in Macau.
The 1580s were Macau's economic heyday;
our silk, tea, and porcelain
all had to be distributed through this intersection in Macau,
which had a tremendous influence!
Introduction to Macau's Folk Arts and Traditional Culture
For example, this lavish bridal sedan chair,
a traditional Cantonese-style sedan chair,
decorated with colorful beads, tassels, pom-poms, and other exquisite items,
still boasts vibrant colors.
Macau also preserves many traditional folk customs.
There are also many exhibits reflecting traditional culture:
headphones on the wall of the "Macanese Living Room,"
traditional Macau women's wedding dresses,
handicrafts, and so on.
Third Floor: Showcasing Modern Macau
This floor presents Macau's current urban landscape and residents' lives.
Using literary works as a medium,
it reveals the unique charm of Macau's new culture and art.
Because before this,
Macau had been a cradle for poets and artists.
Many inspired individuals were nurtured here,
creating extraordinary masterpieces.
To understand Macau's history,
one visit to the Macau Museum is enough.
What does it mean to you?
Macau is like an ancient textbook,
where I can see past and present,
as well as vibrant culture, art, and life...
The song "Song of the Seven Sons" echoes in my ears again.
"You know that Macau is not my real name,
I have been away from you too long, Mother,
But what they took was my body,
You still hold my soul within."
