Recreating Osaka's Landmarks with Lights: Osaka Castle Light and Shadow Show
● Osaka Castle Park: A New Attraction
The streets of Osaka are adorned with colorful lights. The entire city is enveloped in a dreamlike atmosphere completely different from daytime, making people forget the cold. Among the countless light displays, we have chosen to introduce the "Osaka Castle Light and Shadow Show," a spectacular performance set against the backdrop of the castle keep in Osaka Castle Park.
The main tower of Osaka Castle remains highly popular, and in 2017, new facilities like MIRAIZA Osaka Castle and JO-TERRACE OSAKA opened, ensuring Osaka Castle Park's status as a top tourist destination. In the famous cherry blossom viewing spot, Nishinomaru Garden, the "Osaka Castle Light and Shadow Show" is being held, continuing until March 1 of next year.
Every day at 5:00 PM, the lights illuminate the main tower of Osaka Castle, making it emerge from the darkness and kick off the light show.
● The Moving Moment of Lighting Up
The event venue, Nishinomaru Garden, opens at 5:00 PM, but the actual lighting time is 5:30 PM. It is recommended to enter before the lights come on and wait for the moment they illuminate inside the venue. Especially in December at 5:30 PM, the sun has already set and it is pitch dark. When the colorful lights all turn on at once, filling your entire field of vision with bright light—this moving experience is definitely worth seeing!
● This Year's Theme: "The World of Taisho Romance"
From the entrance, pass through a light arch shaped like the Taiko Bridge, and before you lies an endless maze of lights. Come, step into an area full of Osaka's character. Tsutenkaku Tower, Tennoji Zoo, Osaka Castle's main tower, the Central Public Hall... and even the Glico neon sign. These gathered landmarks of Osaka allow you to enjoy the light recreations while recalling the actual sights, thinking, "Ah, I've seen this!"—it's quite a delight. And this year's theme is "The World of Taisho Romance," so these depict Osaka from a slightly earlier era. There are also many retro figures like people in kimono, horse-drawn carriages, and vintage cars! To make you feel like you are strolling in the early Taisho period, they also showcase the civilization and enlightenment of the Meiji era.
● Warm Up at the Romantic Dining Hall
On the other side of the light carpet is a huge screen like an illustrated scroll, introducing the culture and fashion of the Taisho era. Additionally, at the "Romantic Dining Hall" set up within the venue, you can taste Osaka's local flavors. On a cold winter night, taking shelter in the weatherproof tent to warm up is truly delightful.
Every spot at the Osaka Castle Light and Shadow Show can form a picture. Come and travel through time in this vast, sparkling world of light, and take a look at Osaka from a slightly earlier era.
