A Whole Building Dedicated to Korean Supermarkets, Beauty, and Food? The 'Shunkashuto' in Tsuruhashi Korea Town
Namaste! I'm Manju from Nepal, a huge fan of food and shopping.
Right in Osaka, you can enjoy the fun of a trip to Korea at Tsuruhashi Ikuno Korea Town. Previously, I introduced Miyuki-dori Shopping Street where you can eat and shop while strolling on Osaka Metro NiNE. I heard that a new multi-purpose building for food and shopping called 'Shunkashuto' just opened there, so I hurried over to check it out.
The Korean building 'Shunkashuto' that opened in Tsuruhashi Ikuno Korea Town
About a 13-minute walk from Tsuruhashi Station, it’s right in the middle of Miyuki-dori. You can spot this brand-new building that opened on July 8, 2021. Inside this four-story building, the supermarket, beauty shop, café, and everything else are all Korean, and I’m already excited before even stepping in!?
I heard you can rent Korean traditional clothing—hanbok. So I headed straight to the hanbok rental area on the 4th floor.
Wow! So many gorgeous hanboks!
I’d always wanted to wear a traditional dress. There aren’t many places to rent hanbok in Japan, so this is a unique experience only in Korea Town. I asked the staff to recommend one right away.
The shop has everything from traditional styles to the recently popular dress-type hanbok in Korea. So many colors, it was dazzling and hard to choose... Although I didn’t want to give up pink, I ended up choosing a beautiful blue. The staff will carefully teach you how to wear it, so no worries!
The wide skirt is a wrap-style skirt with no side seams, like a single panel. With a petticoat underneath, it puffs out beautifully, just like a princess dress, and my mood soared.
Finally, put on the short jacket and tie the ribbon in a unique way. It feels like a bow tied only on one side, with long ends hanging down, which looks lovely.
You can freely choose bags and small accessories, making the styling so much fun. These tasseled ornaments are so pretty! I attached one to the ribbon of the skirt to let it dangle. Then I put my hair up, added a hair ornament, and it was finished.
Ta-da! How do I look? Doesn't it suit me?
The fluffy skirt almost touches the floor. It’s just like a wedding dress... It makes me feel so elegant.
Rental prices vary by hanbok grade, starting from 2,000 yen per hour, and you can shop inside the Shunkashuto building while wearing it. If you’re just taking photos at the 4th-floor café, it’s a great deal—any hanbok for 30 minutes for 1,000 yen. It’s a perfect chance to take photos and learn about Korean culture. You should definitely try it!
So let’s quickly explore the building in hanbok!
First, the Korean supermarket 'LEE MART' on the 1st floor. The shelves are packed with Korean ingredients—it’s overwhelming!
There are rows of drinks in trendy colored packaging. This is the popular Korean 'Bonbon' juice. I tried the popular peach flavor—it was really all peach! There were big chunks of fruit, juicy and delicious.
The staff recommended this Korean mixed noodle dish 'buckwheat bibim guksu' (spicy buckwheat noodles). They say you load it with lots of vegetables and eat it after grilled meat. It looks so tasty! I’d love to try it~.
There are plenty of condiments too. It’s my first time seeing such a large container of gochujang (Korean chili paste)! So heavy!
You can also get the latest popular Korean snacks. The turtle-shell-shaped snack 'Turtle Chips' is said to be super trendy now. The staff share the latest news from Korea, which is great!
The biggest highlight is the instant noodle section. Look, look! So many varieties!
From the well-known Shin Ramyun (I absolutely love this) to noodles I’ve never seen before. The chili pepper icon has five levels so you can gauge the spiciness, making it easy to try.
There’s also kimchi, delicious cold noodles perfect for this season, frozen foods, meats—you name it. Since it’s hard to eat out due to the pandemic, buying plenty to enjoy Korean food at home is a great idea too.
Next, I went to 'Somunnan Dae-chul' on the 2nd floor. 'Somunnan' means 'everyone's talking about it, legendary' in Korean.
At this shop, you can buy fashion items the owner sources from Korea.
A popular product is the kombucha beloved by beauty enthusiasts. It’s said to improve digestion, boost blood circulation, and enhance immunity.
They also have the classic vitamin 'LEMONA' that every Korean girl has. The TWICE packaging is cute. If I drink this, maybe I’ll become like TWICE?
Korea has lots of idol-branded products. There’s even a BTS latte.
Next door is a popular accessories boutique among Korean girls, 'POPO-Korea Fashion'. It’s filled with cute and affordable earrings and trinkets.
There are also super trendy 'smiley face' sandals from Korea and cute socks.
The balloon decoration is cute too, making it a fun shop to splurge in.
Another shop on the 2nd floor is 'cosme shop Saesbyeol We'. Here you can get brand-name cosmetics at low prices, the kind sold at Incheon International Airport duty-free shops.
SK-II, Kiehl’s, and more—endless high-end beauty products you dream about. There are also great deals on duty-free exclusive sizes.
There are also exquisite accessories handcrafted by artists using Swarovski crystals.
It’s a shop for elegant ladies.
On the 3rd floor is a photo booth area called 'Life Photo Studio'. The walls are all cute pink, making you want to take a few selfies in the trendy mirrors.
After touching up my makeup, I went to take purikura (photo booth pics). There are pink, blue, and yellow rooms to choose from, and I picked yellow to match my blue hanbok.
The operation was simple. I hadn’t taken purikura in a while, so I was a bit nervous... But it turned out cute~.
There are lots of fun hair ornaments you can borrow for free, which girls really love.
Everyone had a blast~.
Right next door is the affordable cosmetics shop 'K-BEAUTY HOUSE'. When it comes to Korean shopping, you can’t miss affordable beauty products! Shelves are packed with directly imported Korean cosmetics.
The variety of face masks is amazing. I use them all the time.
I also found a rare item.
A leg mask called 'Esrena Ultracare Easy Socks'. Just wear them like socks, and your legs feel like they’ve had a spa treatment—smooth and comfortable!
I tried them at home; they were so comfortable and left my skin silky. This is a lifesaver during bare-leg season! It’s seriously amazing~.
There are also stationery and popular 'KAKAO FRIENDS' merchandise from Korea (like LINE characters in Japan—do you know them?).
On the 4th floor, next to the hanbok rental shop, is 'Hangbok Cafe'. Tired from shopping, you can take a break at the cafe.
The sweet and savory Korean BBQ waffle, the wagyu beef Korean BBQ sushi roll, and the 35cm-tall parfait are all tempting. I chose a purple cream soda that reminds me of BTS and a set of four Korean pancakes. Doesn’t it look super delicious?
The purple cream soda is perfect for Instagrammable photos. The kimchi, potato, chive, and corn Korean pancakes looked and tasted fantastic!
I tried the corn pancake drizzled with condensed milk. An unexpected combo, but a perfect match.
Because of the state of emergency, they weren’t serving alcohol today, but they have popular Korean soju, including a Chamisul tasting set.
And the staff’s uniforms were so cute. They were really friendly too, and we chatted a lot; it was fun.
At Shunkashuto, you can experience the latest Korean trends and culture, and enjoy food and shopping.
Having a Korea-trip-like experience in one building is truly wonderful.
When you come to Tsuruhashi Ikuno Korea Town, please be sure to stop by and enjoy a taste of Korea.
