In fact, you can enjoy roses in two seasons each year. The first season begins blooming around May and can be enjoyed until June. The second season is around October when the summer heat subsides.

This time, we introduce two parks where roses are in full bloom and accessible via Osaka Metro!

Osaka's first park: The area around Nakanoshima is surrounded by rivers and offers beautiful scenery. Nakanoshima Park, located here, was founded in 1891 and is Osaka's first park. Against the backdrop of retro buildings such as Osaka City Central Public Hall and Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library, boats shuttle back and forth on the river, creating a resort-like atmosphere different from central Osaka. Although this park has a long history, it was renovated in 2009 and is now very beautiful!

There are 310 varieties of roses here, with about 3,700 plants! Just by strolling along the approximately 1.5 km path, you can enjoy colorful roses and an elegant atmosphere.

Next, we introduce Utsubo Park in Honmachi. This is a long, narrow park about 800 m from east to west. Naniwa-suji (road) running north-south divides the park into East Park and West Park, with the rose garden located in the East Park. The park features a waterfall, stream, and fountain created using the undulating terrain. The roses and nature complement each other, allowing you to enjoy about 170 varieties and 3,400 rose plants.

This rose garden is considered one of the most beautiful in Japan. In fact, it won the Excellent Garden Award at the World Rose Convention in 2006! The "Utsubo Park Autumn Rose Festival 2020" is scheduled to be held here in autumn. It will take place on October 10 (Saturday) and 11 (Sunday) during the best blooming period (as of April 2020 plans). Details will be announced later, so be sure to check!

Spring roses are certainly beautiful and charming, but autumn roses are said to have richer colors and more beautiful shapes—simply stunning. They also have a stronger fragrance than spring roses. Their flower language often includes passionate meanings related to love, affection, and happiness. Just looking at pictures of these roses is intoxicating.

This reminds me of Riyoko Ikeda's work 'The Rose of Versailles.' I can almost hear the laughter of Oscar and Queen Marie Antoinette!

Let's look forward to the enchanting autumn roses and next spring's roses~
