When it comes to summer poetry, it has to be the fireworks festival, right?

Every year from July to August, fireworks festivals are held across Japan. In recent years, due to the impact of the new coronavirus, Osaka's fireworks festivals have been canceled as well. But this year, they may be held again after three years, so we can look forward to it.

This time, I'll bring you dynamic photos of Osaka's famous fireworks festivals: "Tenjin Festival Dedication Fireworks" and "Yodogawa Fireworks." Come on, let's enjoy Osaka's fireworks photos and experience the summer atmosphere ♪

01 Like art!

The brilliance of pyrotechnic craftsmanship

The biggest characteristic of Japanese fireworks is their perfectly round shape!

Fireworks that rise into the sky form circular shapes like real chrysanthemums or peonies.

The spherical firework shells are meticulously calculated and crafted to create beautiful flower shapes when launched into the sky.

And they are all handmade by pyrotechnic artisans – amazing! Each firework can be said to be art created through the precise calculations of pyrotechnic craftsmen ♪

In Europe and America, fireworks are generally just one performance among event activities, but in Japan, fireworks are the main attraction! Large fireworks soaring into the sky with the sound of "Shooooooo – Boom!!" one after another – that's the real charm of enjoying fireworks ~.

Next year, when the coronavirus subsides and fireworks festivals can be held, please be sure to go and appreciate Japan's delicate and beautiful fireworks! With this wish, let's first enjoy the beautiful photos!

02 One of Japan's three major festivals!

Tenjin Festival Dedication Fireworks

When it comes to Osaka's most famous fireworks festival, it has to be the Tenjin Festival!

The Tenjin Festival has a history of over a thousand years and is one of Japan's three major festivals.

This popular festival attracts about 1.3 million visitors every year, but it was canceled again this year...

The Tenjin Festival starts from late June and hosts various events over about a month. The highlight on the final day, the main shrine event, is the "Funatogyo" (boat procession) on the Okawa River near Temmabashi Station on the Tanimachi Line and Minamimorimachi Station on the Tanimachi and Sakaisuji Lines, with about 100 boats passing through.

Then, the finale ends with fireworks! About 5,000 fireworks illuminate the night sky, combined with the swaying lantern lights on the water, creating a very dreamy atmosphere ♪

The Tenjin Festival is a uniquely Japanese festival where you can experience both traditional celebrations and fireworks – highly recommended ☆

03 Largest scale!

Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival

Another popular one in Osaka is the Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival!

This is a summer event that attracts over 500,000 visitors every year. The fireworks festival was not held until last year, but this year it is planned to be held on Saturday, August 27. I hope the coronavirus pandemic will subside soon so that the fireworks festival can proceed smoothly.

The Yodogawa Fireworks are launched along the Yodogawa River, Osaka's largest river. It's conveniently accessible on foot from Umeda Station on the Midosuji Line and Nishinakajima-Minamigata Station!

The scale is truly breathtaking! The best parts are the water fireworks launched simultaneously from about six locations, and the giant fireworks called 10-gauge shells, which reach a launch height and diameter of about 300 meters.

The moment your field of vision is enveloped in brilliant light takes your breath away ♪

The combination of music and fireworks performances keeps you engaged from start to finish.
