Universal Studios Japan: A Fantastical Journey Back to Joyful Game Parties and the Magical World
Among all the Universal Studios parks in the world, Universal Studios Japan in Osaka is the one I know best, having already visited three times. It’s a place where you joyfully return to childhood, filled with memories, excitement, thrills, and fun. Whether you love Mario, Minions, Harry Potter, or Doraemon, here you can find all your expectations met. Each area has its own unique theme and atmosphere, and every ride is visually stunning and fully immersive. Both kids and adults will find their own slice of joy.
*Super Nintendo World
The Nintendo-themed area at Universal Studios Japan is a special zone designed to celebrate the many classic games and characters from Nintendo’s history. So, as soon as the park opened in the morning, I dashed straight to Super Nintendo World. Here, the world of classic games comes to life with Super Mario—so incredibly vivid and lifelike, it feels like you’ve stepped right into the game, where you can interact with various characters. Race around the tracks of "Mario Kart," challenge your wits with complex mechanisms, and experience firsthand the scenes and gameplay from the games.
Additionally, there are exciting attractions like Yoshi’s Adventure and the Power-Up Band Key Challenges. Each one showcases meticulously designed settings and astonishing details, immersing me and my friends in the magical world of gaming, as if we’re adventuring alongside virtual characters. This area is truly a paradise for all game lovers.
At the 1UP Factory, there are plenty of souvenirs to buy, each one cute and charming. I picked up a hat and headband to dress up—it makes the gaming experience even more fitting.
*Minion Park
Minion Park is definitely the ultimate destination for Minions fans. This area is bursting with brightly colored Minion patterns and icons—everywhere you look, there are adorable Minion figures. Here, you can ride the Freeze Ray Sliders, or take photos with the Minions to capture wonderful memories. One of the most exciting rides is "Minion Mayhem," where a giant dome screen plays the mischievous antics of the Minions. The hyper-realistic visuals completely immerse you; the story takes place in Gru's mansion and laboratory. Once you board the special vehicle invented by Gru, you'll begin the wacky training to "become a Minion"! It's an incredibly fun experience, and absolutely not to be missed.
In Minion Park, there’s a very popular item: the Minion popcorn bucket. Each time, the design gets an update. These cute popcorn buckets are exquisitely crafted, with lifelike shapes, and feature classic Minion looks. Beloved by both kids and adults, it’s a must-have on my collection list every visit. Of course, the shops offer an even wider range of Minion merchandise, making great souvenirs to bring back.
*The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Walking into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in a light drizzle, I was instantly transported into a magical realm. At the entrance, you’re greeted by the familiar Hogwarts Express train, which plays an important role in the Harry Potter novels and films, connecting London’s King’s Cross Station with Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Inside the spacious and ancient Hogwarts Castle, "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey" plunges you heart and soul into the world of Harry Potter™. The ultra-realistic visuals make 3D glasses entirely unnecessary; the story unfolds faithfully before visitors, thrilling beyond words—every time I go, I want to ride it twice.
The Butterbeer from the films is served at the Three Broomsticks and the Hog’s Head. Tasting like shortbread or butterscotch and completely non-alcoholic, it’s safe for kids to enjoy. The Three Broomsticks has the best location, offering a complete, magnificent view of Hogwarts Castle and its reflection. Haha, here I pretended to be a real little wizard, conjured up a Butterbeer, and took a hearty swig—what a joy!
*Doraemon XR Ride
Many people are passionate Doraemon fans, dreaming of having a time machine to travel to the past or future. So I was really looking forward to this attraction. Here, I joined a sky adventure, riding a time machine to traverse future and past worlds, fighting alongside Doraemon against evil forces. Photography isn’t allowed inside, so you’ll have to imagine it—and since it’s a limited-time attraction ending on September 3rd, you’ll need to experience it in person before then for the full effect.
Afterwards, I had a limited-edition Doraemon meal at the restaurant: Doraemon curry rice and pork cutlet rice, letting you savor both deliciousness and cuteness, sending my happiness skyrocketing. Plus, there are various Doraemon-themed snacks, ice cream, drinks, and more. These treats aren’t just tasty, they’re incredibly fun and full of nostalgia.
*NO LIMIT! Parade
At 2 PM, the wildly exciting 'NO LIMIT! Parade' kicks off. This is the largest character lineup in Universal Studios Japan’s history, with globally beloved characters like Hello Kitty, Peanuts, Minions, Sesame Street, Sing, Mario and friends, Pokémon, and more shining one after another.
From nostalgic 1940s jazz swing to modern EDM, a variety of dance music that gets visitors of all ages pumped up plays from each float, making both body and soul leap with joy. An exhilarating and feverish dance party unfolds throughout the park. When the parade floats stop along the route, it’s 'Super NO LIMIT! Time' where everyone dances together. Encouraged by the performers, visitors along the route can gather around the floats and join the parade performance, dancing the 'NO LIMIT! Dance' alongside performers and their favorite characters—super exciting. The crowds lining the streets, regardless of age, all become the 'stars' of the parade, fully enjoying this brand-new participatory 'super feverish' parade that lets you break out of your shell and release everything from the bottom of your heart.
*The Park Front Hotel at Universal Studios Japan
Trust me! You absolutely, positively must stay at this hotel—you’ll see what a smart choice it is once you do. The location is unbeatable: just a one-minute walk from the hotel entrance to the gates of Universal Studios Japan. After a tiring day, being able to walk just a few steps back to your room is so convenient.
The breakfast at The Park Front Hotel is also abundant. On the third floor, the Hawaiian-themed buffet restaurant offers both Japanese and Western dishes, along with a variety of fruits and desserts—nutritious and with everything you could want. From the terrace, you can see Universal Studios' roller coasters. Sitting here, enjoying a comfortable breakfast while the joyful shouts of visitors drift to your ears, is pure bliss.
I highly recommend The Park Front Hotel at Universal Studios Japan. It’s not only a hundred meters from the park, but also a hundred meters from the train station, making transportation to and from downtown Osaka quick and easy—no time wasted. In the evening, from your room window, you can overlook the entire park and enjoy the most beautiful sunset as the lights begin to twinkle.
If you’re looking for a way to escape reality or return to childhood, coming to Universal Studios Japan is definitely the perfect choice. Here, not only can you forget about all the mundane things, but you can also fully unleash your inner passion and adventurous spirit.
