Endless Excitement in Osaka at Night! Immerse Yourself in the Warm Hospitality of Shinsaibashi's Bars

Hi! I'm Bryan.

I was born in New York and grew up in Denver. I've been in Japan for 15 years, and I've lived in Osaka for 5 years!

Tonight's nightlife begins in front of the Daimaru Shinsaibashi store, right next to Exit 6 of Shinsaibashi Station on the Osaka Metro.

Nowadays in the tourism industry, "nightlife" is a keyword that's gaining popularity. This term refers to "nighttime sightseeing," meaning enjoying the evening just as much as daytime sightseeing ♪. It's a term truly fitting for Osaka, a city full of energy that lets you have fun from morning till night!

Osaka is known as "the kitchen of the world," with an abundance of delicious food. The Namba and Shinsaibashi areas in particular are sleepless cities that stay lively even at night. No matter where you go, everyone is so friendly and full of passion, which fills my heart with energy!

Let me introduce you to some places that will energize your heart and are perfect for enjoying nightlife!!

There are many bars and pubs in Osaka that cater to foreigners, but the ones I'd recommend most are Irish pubs!

The "Irish" in Irish pub refers to Ireland, a country west of Britain with vast, rich countryside and a laid-back atmosphere. "Pub" generally means a place where you can casually enjoy drinks and snacks, but in Ireland, a pub is not just for eating and drinking—it's a social space for adults to enjoy music, chat with locals, and connect with others.

People enjoy Guinness beer and Irish whiskey here, and strangers naturally strike up conversations. There's a warm, relaxed family atmosphere. Yes, that's the charm of Irish pubs! Hmm, it's absolutely wonderful.

So this time, I visited "Murphy's Irish Pub," which has been a popular spot in Shinsaibashi since it opened in 1991 as the first Irish pub in Osaka. It's always bustling.

Speaking of Ireland, have you heard of "St. Patrick's Day"?

St. Patrick's Day commemorates the death of St. Patrick, who brought Christianity to Ireland. The tradition is to dye the entire city green in celebration! Even food and beer are green—it's a green festival.

As I walked up the narrow green staircase, reminiscent of St. Patrick's Day, I heard lively sounds. Looks like it'll be another lively night ♪

At Murphy's, the first thing you have to try is the craft beer! There are so many varieties that it's hard to choose, but today I went with the owner's recommendation: "O'hara's Irish Red Beer"! To go with the beer, I had the classic pub snack: fish and chips. The crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside white fish and French fries are served with tartar sauce and malt vinegar. This pairing never disappoints and is a perfect match with the craft beer!

Murphy's simply has a huge selection of drinks. With whiskey lined up like this, it's hard to decide which one to choose.

Next, I chose an Irish whiskey that's famous for being hard to find, with only about 6,000 bottles produced each year: "GREEN SPOT"! The name is said to come from a practice of painting spots on barrels to indicate aging time—the paint spot = SPOT (mark).

This whiskey features a fresh, fruity aroma of green apples and grapes, a sweet, candy-like flavor, and a dry, rich finish. It's very smooth and refreshing, so it should be suitable for whiskey beginners or women. I recommend it on the rocks or neat.

Gathered around Michael, the Irish owner, I clinked glasses with the staff!!! Many regulars come because of Michael's cheerful and lively personality, but first-timers need not worry ♪ He'll warmly chat with you and find out what drinks you like.

After two or three drinks, as you get into the groove, you naturally become friends with those around you ♪ That's when shot glasses come into play. Cheers!

People from all over the world, of different ages and professions, sit together drinking and chatting about trivial things. Isn't this what the Japanese call "Ichigo Ichie" (one encounter, one chance)?

Grateful for the encounters of the day, and wanting to come back for new ones—this is the greatest charm of an Irish pub!

Oh, and upstairs at Murphy's there's a space for karaoke, live performances, and watching sports!

When there's an interesting game, I also recommend watching sports together. The variety of ways to have fun is another charm of Murphy's.

After drinking, the most common way to wrap up the night is definitely ramen! After a few drinks, you inexplicably crave ramen. So I headed to "KOTEIMEN DAICHAN," located in a charming alley in Shinsaibashi, to finish the night!

KOTEIMEN DAICHAN is a small shop with only counter seats. Besides ramen, they also have Chinese-style snacks like mapo tofu and dry-fried shrimp, which perfectly satisfy the urge for "one more drink!"

Even though I came for a finish, the aroma of gyoza was so irresistible that I ended up ordering gyoza and beer. Crispy fried gyoza paired with beer. Ahh, so satisfying ♪

Then, the long-awaited ramen! Receiving a large bowl of ramen over the counter is so exciting ♪ A light salt-flavored ramen—time to dig in! Mmm, the delicious taste soothes my tired body.

The broth is clear and light, allowing you to taste the umami of chicken stock. The noodles are medium-thick with a good chew, and the watercress topping adds a nice touch ♪ It's a simple yet refined salt ramen.

Here too, I chatted with the customer next to me and had a great time ♪

I met so many people just tonight! People often say that Osaka's charm lies in its people, and I wholeheartedly agree.

If you want to enjoy nightlife in Shinsaibashi, I think you should actively engage with others! You'll surely make unforgettable memories in Osaka! Everyone, enjoy your fantastic nightlife ♪
