Even before coming to Qingdao, the white openwork church at Redwood had deeply captivated me and made it onto my must-visit list in Qingdao. After moving to Qingdao, I visited Redwood in winter, during the off-season. Huangdao looked a bit bleak then, and I didn’t have high expectations, but Redwood surprised me. I’m grateful that the developers built such a massive resort world, bundling dining, entertainment, shopping, and accommodation together so we didn’t have to worry about the weather. In the deep winter, we soaked in a hot spring, and indoors there was a cinema and a huge children’s adventure kingdom. Food ranged from affordable food streets to high-end restaurants. We had an incredibly happy two-day-one-night holiday.

This summer, we brought our child to Redwood again. Half a year had flown by, and our little one had grown so fast. Watching him run around by the seaside reminded me of last winter when we had to carry him in turns.

In summer, the Redwood resort is a joyful carnival, filled with children’s laughter everywhere. On the lively seaside night, we were lucky to catch Redwood’s annual Light and Shadow Festival. It was a pity that due to the pandemic, the light festival and beer festival ended early, but attractions like the Seraphim, Forest of Breath, Light Balls, City Heart, Dome Cinema, and children’s parent-child plays were still available. Even toddlers could watch the parent-child plays, and they were worth a visit. The dazzling dreamy lights masked the moonlight, and the magical light show pierced the night, illuminating the magnificent buildings, making the scene look like a dream.

Qingdao Redwood Resort World sits along a one-kilometer coastline of Lingshan Bay, fulfilling our wish to step out and step onto the sand. The family packages launched during holidays offer great value. Among many resorts in Qingdao, Redwood is truly a treasure for family vacations.

Equivalent to eight five-star hotels, it is called the Las Vegas of China.🏖 Hotel Environment: Overlooking the golden beach with stunning sea views, steps away from the beach, it is the hotel closest to the beach in Qingdao.

Photography: A Gem for Pretending You’re in Europe

Come to Redwood to shoot a series of “pretending I’m abroad” photos. The most iconic landmark is this white openwork church, with intricate light and shadow patterns and exquisite ornamentation, like a piece of art. The German-style town architecture mimics that of Celle, Germany. Every building is stunningly beautiful, making it an excellent location for portraits, films, and TV dramas. Many couples choose to take wedding photos here. The central square is bathed in sunlight, doves fly, and the coffee is peaceful – it all feels like Europe.📸 Photo Spots: The cloud sculpture in front of the church, a lovely piece named “Floating Cloud” by Cai Zhisong, a Venice Biennale artist.

At night, the floating cloud changes color.

Feeding the pigeons in the square: Why go to London? You can feed pigeons in the square at the entrance of Redwood. However, these pigeons are not free-range; you cannot bring your own food. Pigeon feed is sold for 10 yuan a cup, a fair price. Flocks of pigeons come, enough for a family photo.

European Corridor: The corridor provides shelter from wind and rain and the scorching summer sun. Wear a vintage French-style dress and walk or turn around – great for photos.

White Gothic Wedding Chapel: Weddings can be held here, very dreamy, a hall in countless girls’ dreams. Try shooting partial views of the chapel for a sense of design beauty.

German-style Town: Colorful houses under sunlight look like oil paintings. When the light is good in the afternoon, you feel instantly transported to a European street. Flowy dresses or French-style outfits work well for photos.

Accommodation: 270-Degree Romantic Sea View Suite

Half of Redwood’s hotel rooms face the sea, and half face the church. I recommend choosing a sea-view room. Whether day or night, watching sunlight gently sprinkle on the sparkling sea, or gazing at the starry sky at night, the vast blue sea is always healing, curing all unhappiness. The rooms are spacious, equipped with bathtubs, and have distinct areas: a dressing room, a tea area, and a viewing balcony. I love the walnut-colored wood – elegant and not clichéd. Living by the sea, sleeping to the sound of waves, every day surrounded by the sea is happy. The sea view changes with the tides; at night you hear the roar of waves, and opening your eyes you see sparkling water – just like ordinary life, each with its own storms and brilliance.

The little seal (the child) loves the big fish tank; he gets excited as soon as he enters and wants to take a bath.

Tea break area: each room has a different painting hanging.

One of Redwood’s most popular attractions is its own Japanese-style hot spring. It’s a bit far from the hotel rooms to the hot spring. Hotel guests can change into swimsuits and go directly. First, get a wristband at the entrance, then store your shoes. Go up to the second floor, enter the gender-separated indoor pools. Here you bathe nude; wash before soaking. No phones or photos allowed. There are massage pools, beauty pools, etc., with temperatures around 37-38°C – even babies can soak.

After soaking for a while, put on your swimsuit and go outside to the outdoor pools, with a 270-degree view of the blue sea. In winter, in the freezing cold, our heads steamed – that’s the joy of winter bathing. In summer, the water feels a bit cooler, not too hot. The hot spring opens at 10:00 AM. We came early and soaked until noon, then felt too hot and went to the rest area. The rest area has a small children’s playground with ball pits, slides, and trampolines suitable for toddlers. The steam room has multiple function rooms, including a sauna and a dome cinema. The tatami area has bean bag sofas – you can take a comfortable nap here. Soaking in the morning had almost no crowd; the whole floor gave the little seal space to run around and roll.

Tips for hot spring photos: No photos are allowed in the indoor pools to protect privacy; phones cannot be taken in either. Outdoor pools allow photos. In the rest area, you can change into cute bathrobes and roll a towel into a hat to wear for photos. Remember to ask for children’s bathrobes at the front desk! Different sizes and styles are available. Redwood Hot Spring is open to the public without hotel stay, but hotel guests have more discount packages. Bring your own swimsuit; no need to bring toiletries.

Night Tour: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

During our visit, we encountered Redwood Resort World’s 5D holographic light show, held once a year, starting at 7 PM. The town square transformed into a dreamy castle of light and shadow, with a 120-meter-long projection wall unfolding a picturesque scroll. Dynamic music accompanied changing light scenes. An 8.8-meter fiery phoenix burst from the curtain, flying from the scroll into reality, delivering an unparalleled visual impact.

The German-style town also features Qingdao’s first naked-eye 3D right-angle screen, with stunning visual effects. Children stood beneath it with wide eyes. In the evening, there was a float parade. As night fell, specially designed light installations for summer nights were dazzling: Seraphim, City Heart,网红 swings, and misty light tunnels became popular photo spots. At the entrance of Redwood Hot Spring, small twinkling flower lights were everywhere, and the outdoor pool glowed blue at night.

Fun: Baby’s Favorite Adventure Kingdom

Redwood’s own indoor playground, Adventure Kingdom, ranks first in Huangdao District’s children’s playground sales list. It covers 4,000 square meters of activity space. On the left side of the entrance is an area suitable for toddlers: colorful little houses for crawling – last time, the little seal couldn’t walk yet and had great fun crawling around there. There are also air cannons, zip lines, toddler slides, mountain bike tracks, toddler play zones, children’s climbing, role-playing areas, and a children’s driving school. On the right side of the entrance is the famous three-story-high, 90-degree curved devil slide – an adult challenge. The scene was full of screams. The playground suits all ages, and parents won’t get bored either.

Address: B1 floor of Redwood Resort WorldTickets: One adult + one child general ticket 138 yuan (for hotel guests); 158 yuan for non-guests. Hotel packages may include free Adventure Kingdom tickets.Hours: Monday to Sunday 09:30-17:30Tips: No shoes allowed; wear non-slip socks or regular socks. Socks sold at the front desk: 10 yuan per pair for adults, 4 yuan for children. Outside food and drinks not allowed. Accompanying adults must be at least 18 years old. Extra adult: 20 yuan per person. Each person gets a wristband upon entry; no swapping allowed.

Fun: Natural Seawater Bathing Beach and Outdoor Pool

Lingshan Bay’s one-kilometer coastline is Redwood’s best vacation resource. The hotel is close to the beach, with fine sand, blue sky, and clear sea. In the evening, families play happily on the beach, digging sand, chasing waves – gentle breeze, hello summer. The outdoor pools that we didn’t see in winter were all filled and open in summer. From above, the blue irregularly shaped pools complement the sea. Next to the pool, cute giant yellow ducks sit on the lawn. Children splash and play – the happiest water time in summer.

Redwood also has its own international cinema, with a total area of 6,000 square meters and 33 screens, all using laser 3D projection. Among them, 9 traditional screens include 1 China Giant Screen, 1 MX4D screen, and 7 standard screens. Additionally, 24 1+X screens with different designs and functions are open. Screen 5 (giant screen) is Qingdao’s first 4K laser China Giant Screen, with a full screen size of 23.2m x 13.2m. It focuses on extreme enhancement of every frame for the most vivid and clear image. It uses dual-projector giant screen panoramic sound, with 13.1 channels for an ultra-immersive audio experience. The MX4DX screen allows you to experience movie scenes physically – rain sprays when it rains in the movie, and you feel like flying when a character flies.

The cinema is also child-friendly, with special 3D glasses and clip-on glasses for children, as well as free booster cushions. Summer packages include new activities: naked-eye 3D children’s parent-child plays. The show changes over time. We watched "The Little Mermaid," and the live actors’ emotional performance was touching.

Naked-eye 3D Children’s Play Schedule: 8.7-8.13: Magic Night – Havoc in Heaven; 8.14-8.22: Romantic Night – The Snow Queen.

Food: Welcome to the Food Kingdom

During a family vacation, eating is very important. Redwood Resort World is the hotel I’ve stayed at with the most food options. Sichuan, Beijing-style, barbecue, and international cuisines are all available. There’s also a well-stocked supermarket for drinks and snacks. You never have to worry about meals. Here are some restaurants we tried:

Thai Restaurant: For a refined meal at Redwood, the DP-rated popular Thai SELECT restaurant is the best choice. In a summer when we can’t travel to Thailand, let our taste buds experience authentic Thai flavors. The sour and spicy Thai food instantly puts us in a summer vacation mood. What girl doesn’t love Thai food? A bowl of Tom Yum Goong soup is refreshing. Must-order dishes include seafood platter and curry rice – all favorites.

Le Grong Prue French Restaurant: We had our buffet breakfast and dinner here. True to Redwood’s style, it offers great value. Breakfast includes jianbing, tofu pudding, and Chinese hamburger. Dinner buffet features international cuisines: various seafood sashimi, Japanese sushi, grilled steak, Beijing roast duck, Sichuan snacks, Thai dishes, handmade ice cream, and delicate desserts. The little seal loves the dumplings here. Individual servings: we tried salmon pie, very tasty. Don’t miss outdoor barbecue in summer – lamb skewers and draft beer. In winter, there’s an authentic copper pot hot pot with fresh mutton. Eat as much as you want!

Food Court: For a simple but hearty meal, head to the B1 food court. From various drinks to local specialties, there’s everything: Jiangnan snacks, Yunnan snacks, porridge noodles, ramen hot pot, rice bowls, dumplings, etc., satisfying all tastes. Prices are slightly higher than outside – a bowl of noodles costs around 20+ yuan, which is acceptable.

Yuan Coffee (Red Coffee): A trendy café in the German-style town square. The red cups with “RED” on them are iconic. Tables and chairs are also bright red. The café is open to the public, but hotel guests can buy packages that include a free afternoon tea. The interior has an industrial mechanical style, with two floors. It offers 3D printed coffee that can print your photo on the foam.
