In this fast-paced world, I yearned for a tranquil haven where my soul could find brief respite. Hearing of Laoshan’s breathtaking beauty and profound cultural heritage, I embarked without hesitation on a photography trip to this immortal mountain rising from the sea. Over three days and two nights, I would capture its scenery to my heart’s content and savor life’s unhurried and beautiful moments.

My journey began at dawn, as the first rays of sunlight touched the summit. I headed to the Taiqing Scenic Area and strolled through Taiqing Palace, where stone inscriptions abound inside and around the complex, each one bearing a story of those who came before and their bond with this sacred land. Walking among towering ancient trees and serene courtyards, I felt as though I had stepped back in time, into an ancient and mysterious era.

Next, I joined the launch ceremony of the May 19th event, watching tai chi and traditional Chinese-style performances, as well as a live band in the leisure and fashion zone. These activities not only showcased Laoshan’s unique cultural charm but also added a special touch to my trip. Interacting and quizzing with NPCs portraying historical figures like Li Bai and Pu Songling, I even received a blessing sachet as a souvenir—lending a sense of ritual and mystery to my journey.

I then visited the "Sea’s Immortal Mountain, Good Market Happens" creative cultural market. Here, contemporary national-trend crafts and intangible heritage pieces mingled, each exuding rich cultural depth and artistry. I immersed myself, quietly taking in the stories and exquisite craftsmanship behind every item.

For lunch, I tasted a vegetarian meal at the Taiqing Palace dining hall. Simple as it was, each bite seemed infused with nature’s essence and the wisdom of spiritual practice. A sense of inner peace and contentment washed over me.

In the afternoon, I continued exploring Taiqing Palace and paid homage to the ancient "three-in-one" thousand-year-old tree—the Hanbai Lingxiao. This venerable cypress has witnessed the palace’s long history and the devout prayers of countless believers. Standing beneath it, I could almost feel the weight of time and the marks of passing years.

Boarding a Taiqing cruise, I gazed down at Laoshan’s majestic landscape, my heart soaring. Seagulls danced and swooped alongside the boat, as if sharing a dance between sea and sky. The sea breeze gently brushed my cheeks, carrying the fresh, cool scent of ocean, cleansing my spirit—I felt I was in a fairyland. It was an unforgettable voyage on the sea.

For dinner, I chose Xiehou Meisu, a homestay in Ximaiyao Village, where I sampled the award-winning dish "Youlong Hairtail"—the fish tender and juicy, paired with a special sauce that left me craving more. "Seafood Platter" was a true feast of the ocean, brimming with an array of fresh delicacies, a delight to devour. I also recommend the uniquely flavored locust flower pancake, Jiaodong crispy shrimp, and the house-recipe Yilu fresh Spanish mackerel. Every dish let me taste the distinctive charm of farmhouse cuisine and the hosts’ dedication.

I spent the night at Wushe Laoshan, a guesthouse nestled in the picturesque Ximaiyao Village and an ideal choice for a countryside getaway. It features twelve differently styled courtyard compounds, like hidden gems in Laoshan. Facilities include projectors, barbecues, and more, along with special touches like a sea-view terrace and a slide, filling the stay with fun. At night, under a canopy of stars and the gentle lapping of waves, it felt like a paradise tucked away from the world. Here at Wushe, I enjoyed the warmth of home and nature’s gifts—an experience to remember.

The next day, I set off for the Yangkou Scenic Area, a paradise for photographers with its exceptional coastal and mountain scenery. Climbing to the "Tianyuan" viewing platform at the summit, I gazed out over the shimmering sea and rolling hills, as if I stood within a magnificent painting. I couldn’t resist pressing the shutter again and again, capturing this rare beauty.

I witnessed firsthand the awe-inspiring Shouzi Peak: across 20,000 square meters of cliff face, 36 characters for "shou" (longevity) shine like an open-air calligraphy exhibition. I paused to look up, especially struck by the one over 20 meters tall, symbolizing long life, great longevity, and eternal youth—a vivid embodiment of the "Blessed Laoshan" spirit that made me deeply appreciate the mountain’s cultural richness and natural splendor.

Stepping into Mitian Cave, I felt as if I had entered a mysterious world. The interior was deep and winding, with giant boulders stacked overhead—every step a challenge. I climbed cautiously, savoring the thrill and fun of exploration. Finally, emerging from the opening, the vista opened wide, and the sweeping sea-mountain panorama took my breath away.

Entering Cai Bingfen’s Jiaodong Flower Bun R&D base was like stepping into a colorful world of dough art. Kneading the dough with my own hands and crafting buns in various shapes, I experienced the charm of intangible cultural heritage. Amid laughter, tradition blended with innovation, and I happily lost myself in the joy of handmade creation.

Visiting the Xiaoyangchun Tea Museum was like entering a tranquil world steeped in tea fragrance. Guided by an instructor, I picked fresh leaves myself, gently touching the tender buds and feeling nature’s gift. Then I watched a tea-frying master’s exquisite skills, the aroma intoxicating. Most unforgettable was the tea-tasting banquet: each sip seemed to tell a thousand-year-old story, letting me grasp the profound depth of tea culture. This visit not only revealed tea’s allure but also deepened my understanding and respect for its heritage.

That night, I stayed at the Laoshan Swan Castle • Shenxianju Leisure Estate, as if retreating to a hidden immortal realm. Every brick and tile here whispers of history and romance; every room boasts an unbeatable sea view, soothing the heart. In the European classical Swan Castle, I felt like I was living a dreamy castle life; in the Princess Building, I enjoyed refined Nordic comfort; and in Shenxianju, I immersed myself in the elegance and serenity of a Chinese garden. Whichever experience you choose, you’ll forget worldly clamor and revel in peace and beauty—an unforgettable holiday.

On the third day, I visited the Jiushui Scenic Area, where mountain-and-water landscapes dominate and rank among Laoshan’s loveliest sights. I strolled along the stream, admiring crystal-clear water, strange peaks, unique rocks, and dense greenery. Along the way, the gurgling water and birdsong made me feel enfolded in nature’s embrace.

Deep within Laoshan, at the head of Inner Jiushui, lies Chaoyin Waterfall. Its source is the Tianyi Spring, hidden atop the mountain. The spring’s crystal-clear waters tumble like mountain spirits, meandering freely through valleys and ravines. Its journey is hardly smooth but full of ups and downs, until it bravely plunges over the cliff face into the spectacular waterfall.

After leaving Jiushui, visiting a farmhouse for an authentic country banquet was a special delight. Surrounded by green hills and clear waters, the air was fresh and invigorating—I felt as if I had stepped into a pastoral painting. Late May is also the best time to pick cherries.

Braised swan goose and fried bee pupae were two particularly distinctive dishes. The goose, locally raised and carefully cooked, was tender and rich in flavor. The wild bee pupae were fried to a golden crisp, crunchy, and packed with protein and trace elements. Also on the table were Jiushui free-range chicken soup, fried river shrimp, homemade sea jelly, sea asparagus, and stir-fried mountain beans with meat—all in generous portions. Paired with a bottle of Laoshan Cola, I had just one word: perfect!

After the meal, I ambled over to Hebu Coffee near Jiushui Scenic Area, as if enveloped by the tranquility and poetry of this land between mountain and sea. A cup of aromatic coffee and a scoop of cool ice cream instantly swept me into a feast for the taste buds. Outside the window, Laoshan’s beauty and the cozy indoor atmosphere formed a living painting. Touring the homestay nearby further immersed me in Laoshan’s profound cultural heritage and unique lifestyle.

This trip was not only a visual delight but also a cleansing of the soul.

My three-day, two-night photography trip to Laoshan let me deeply experience its natural beauty and rich cultural roots. Here, I not only admired spectacular mountain-sea scenery but also tasted the essence of Taoist philosophy and the distinctive charm of fishing village culture. I hope this guide offers some inspiration and ideas for your own Laoshan journey. Let’s capture Laoshan’s beautiful moments together through our lenses!
