This is a 5A-level scenic spot within a two-hour drive from Shanghai, Nanjing, Yangzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi, and Changzhou.
Around Qingming Festival, rapeseed flowers are in full bloom, and the thousand-acre raised fields (Duotian) in Xinghua, Jiangsu attract visitors from all directions. For tourists on packaged tours, the one-day itinerary of Taizhou also recommends a 5A-level scenic spot not far from the Qianduo Scenic Area—Qinhu National Wetland Park.
Qinhu National Wetland Park is located in Jiangyan District, Taizhou City. It is the second national wetland park approved by the State Forestry Administration and the first of its kind in Jiangsu Province.
It is within a two-hour drive from major cities such as Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Yangzhou, and Nantong.
Qinhu Lake is 1.4 kilometers long from east to west and 1.5 kilometers long from north to south, shaped like a jade pendant, covering an area of about 3,500 mu. There are as many as nine major rivers leading to the lake, naturally forming a strange landscape known as 'Nine Dragons Paying Homage to the Throne.'
The superior natural environment makes it a wintering and stopover site for migratory birds. It has diverse biological types, including the national first-class protected species red-crowned crane, and second-class protected species such as whooper swan, white-naped crane, and silver pheasant. However, in this warm spring season, the migratory birds have already flown far away, but the national first-class protected animal, the Pere David's deer (milu), lives here year-round.
The annual 'China • Qintong Boat Festival' is held on Qinhu Lake. The Qintong Boat Festival, along with the Yunnan Water Splashing Festival, is listed as one of the top ten folk festival activities in China. It is a key project of the Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai tourism festivals and the only national-level tourism project in Taizhou. Every year around Qingming to May, a grand 'Qintong Boat Festival' is held on Qinhu Lake. The Boat Festival is a traditional festival that has been passed down from the Ming Dynasty. If you are lucky enough to come at the right time, the lake will be filled with the sound of drums and gongs, bamboo poles standing in rows, and various colorful boats, dragon boats, and pole boats racing in thousands. The magnificent scene, thrilling competition, and colorful performances will dazzle and overwhelm you.
The wetland park also preserves and newly builds traditional houses, farming and hunting grounds, a folk museum, a science museum, and other cultural facilities to help you learn more about the wetland customs, historical evolution, and the living habits of wetland animals and plants. It serves as both a natural scenic area and a treasure trove of knowledge.
