What is the Jiuzhaigou Celebrity Hotel Really Like?

Many people used to think that the Jiuzhaigou scenic area is located in Jiuzhaigou county town, but that’s not the case. The scenic area is actually located at the entrance of Jiuzhaigou Valley, in the administrative area of Zhangzha Town. It is about 40 kilometers away from Jiuzhaigou county town. So if you plan to travel to Jiuzhaigou and look for a hotel, you should find one near the entrance of the valley, and definitely not in the county town.

However, there are a huge number of hotels near the entrance of Jiuzhaigou Valley, as this area relies heavily on tourism accommodation. Especially in recent years, with the development of rural tourism, some Tibetan homes have been converted into hotels. It can be said that hotels here are 'as numerous as the hairs on an ox.' And every hotel (except for the Ctrip Five Diamond ones) claims to be a four-star hotel, but there are still differences.

So which hotel should you choose?

Among the many hotels, there is one called Jiuzhaigou Celebrity Hotel. Many people have asked me whether it is worth staying at. Let’s first take a look at the hotel’s condition.

Jiuzhaigou Celebrity Hotel was actually the Ruby Hotel from many years ago, and it was one of the few officially rated three-star hotels in the area.

The exterior of the hotel looks quite grand, and the parking lot is spacious. If you are driving, you don’t need to worry about parking at all.

After a renovation in 2015, the hotel was renamed Jiuzhaigou Celebrity Hotel. Two years after opening, it encountered the Jiuzhaigou earthquake, which forced it to close for two years. Later, in the first half of 2019, the earthquake-damaged parts were renovated, and it reopened in the second half of 2019. However, just a few months after reopening, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, so the hotel’s occupancy rate has actually been quite low.

In other words, the overall condition of the hotel is relatively good. The facilities are fairly new. So its cost-performance ratio is quite decent.

The hotel lobby is spacious and well-lit, making it look bright.

The hotel has nearly 300 rooms, most of which are standard rooms. The room sizes are generally large, about 30 square meters. The bathrooms and washrooms are also large. Because the original old hotel had separated the washbasin area and the toilet, after the renovation, they connected the two areas, so now the overall bathroom area is very spacious.

The hotel management is hired from outside, so compared to hotels managed by local people, the details are handled better, and the overall hygiene is good and very clean.

The rooms have carpet flooring instead of wooden floors. Considering Jiuzhaigou’s climate, this is quite good, because in winter and spring, the temperatures are generally cold, and carpeting gives a warm feeling.

The hotel provides a buffet breakfast. However, breakfast in Jiuzhaigou is generally not particularly good. This hotel is relatively better than many, but if you choose to stay here, you should still have some expectations.

Disadvantages: There aren’t many places to stroll around near the hotel. If you want to go shopping, it may be inconvenient. Also, the hotel’s air conditioning is not very good, especially the cooling function. Of course, in Jiuzhaigou, there aren’t many really hot days in summer, so cooling is rarely needed. In winter, an electric blanket is more practical than air conditioning in this area. But if you care about air conditioning, you should think twice before choosing.

Tip: The hotel’s original layout had rooms distributed across three buildings. The online discount rooms are in the former Building C, which have smaller room sizes. The other Warm and Comfortable rooms and Fine rooms are basically the same, with not much difference.

The hotel is quite close to the entrance of the valley. By car, it’s less than five minutes; on foot, it takes about fifteen minutes.

Overall, the hotel’s rooms are good and worth choosing. As for which hotels are easy to fall into pitfalls, I’ll tell you one by one in a few days.
